POSITION SUMMARY

Childcare Teaching Assistants are responsible for caring for the health, wellbeing, and age appropriate education of infants, toddlers, and young children in a child care setting, under the direction of a Teacher Associate. Must be able to provide excellent guest service by encouraging engagement among all children in the classroom, in addition to communicating with parents/guardians about their child's experience during that given day. Assistants are responsible for addressing concerns of parents and guests and will work with a Teacher Associate and/or the Childcare Manager for resolution. The Teaching Assistant must maintain the facility in a healthy and safe working order, while observing all state mandated regulations. We have both seasonal and year-round opportunities available for this role. The hourly rate for this position begins at $20.00/hr.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Interact with, initiate and encourage children in all activities during the day, ensuring their safety at all times
  • Follow curriculum as directed by the Teacher Associate; participate and encourage participation among children in classroom
  • Maintain a cooperative and supportive attitude with other staff members
  • Responsible for the basic care needs of the children in their classroom.
  • To be knowledgeable in the state child care regulations and follow the rules and regulations outlined
  • Assist during mealtimes; with preparation, during the meal and the clean-up afterwards
  • Successfully interact with families and communicate children's individual needs
  • Assist with daily tasks that maintain the tidiness of the facility
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
  • Complete 24 hours of professional development
  • Wear designated protective equipment and follow procedures as directed
  • Participate, and assist in, coordination of emergency procedures
  • Everyone employed at Stratton Childcare Center is a mandated reporter and is responsible for calling the Department of Child and Family Services to report any suspected abuse or neglect, as outlined by DCF.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:
  • High School diploma, or equivalent, required
  • 3 credit college course in Psychology, Sociology, or Early Education related field

Experience:
  • 1 year of working experience in a childcare center


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Must meet or exceed, Vermont standards for Teaching Assistant position
  • Must be 18 years of age, or older
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Desire to work closely with children in an educational and supervisory setting, while pursuing personal accreditation through professional development. Some experience working with children from newborn to six years old in a supervised environment is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift 40 (forty) pounds, on a regular and repeating basis
  • Must be able to perform during the day without scheduled breaks
  • Must be able to handle high noise levels and stressful environments
  • This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays
