Job Summary

Involves the provision of treatment designed to facilitate the process of recovery from mental illness, substance abuse, or physical limitations to as normal a condition as possible. Includes the disciplines of vocational rehabilitation.

Provides direct vocational rehabilitative services to mentally ill adults who often also suffer from substance abuse disorders, and/or physical limitations. Works clients to identify employment interests, assess work skills, coach them through the application process, work with employers to identify potential jobs for clients, and support employees and employers to solve problems to help retain employment.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $58,100 - $123,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Division of Citywide Case Management Programs provides comprehensive outpatient treatment to San Franciscans suffering from severe mental illness, often complicated by substance abuse and/or chronic medical conditions. The mission of the division is to help clients recover prior functioning, while reducing reliance on acute services, and facilitate transitions from ZFGH psychiatric inpatient, jails, or other institutions to the community. The Citywide Employment Program works to help clients recover from their disabilities by finding and keeping jobs, expand productive use of time, and increase educational and job skills.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelors Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation or related field and one year experience or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • Knowledge of a rehabilitation service and ability to apply concepts to operations in an acute care setting.
  • Experience in job development and employment counseling.
  • Ability to work cooperatievely and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume environment, woring well with others and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and be detailed oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries and reports of activities within required timelines. Able to set priorities, and organize time accordingly.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work well with others to achieve common goals within a culturally diverse setting. Customer service orientation to quickly address questions or issues.
  • Able to lift 50lbs and climb stairs.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability.
