Job Summary The Director, Data Science / AI Product Owner is responsible for leading, managing, and advancing the Analytical Workbench to drive data-driven decision-making across CMG use cases. This role defines the workbench's vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities to maximize business impact. The Director, Data Science / AI Product Owner collaborates with senior leaders, technical teams, and business stakeholders to integrate capabilities, optimize resource allocation, and drive adoption. Additionally, they oversee execution, measure impact, and champion the workbench's role in enabling scalable analytics solutions across the organization. Key Responsibilities
Set strategic direction for the Analytical Workbench product(s), ensuring alignment with organizational priorities based on user feedback, user research, business impact, market trends and data insights to deliver scalable solutions and exceptional user experiences for capabilities such as a data science/AI workbench, analytics co-pilot(s), coding assessments, and visualization tools. Accountable as the central owner of the analytical workbench roadmap, overseeing strategic planning, digital forward operational execution, delivery milestones, and measurable impact through adoption and sustained engagement. Drive the innovation of the analytical workbench product(s) for a variety of CMG use cases spanning the entire customer journey. Find opportunities to infuse analytical workbench into Genentech existing products where and when applicable to address unarticulated needs of our customers. Serve as key champion for the role of analytical workbench in achieving enterprise objectives, communicating their value proposition and roadmap(s) to senior leaders and organization-wide stakeholders to understand analytical workbench platform value and roadmap. Collaborate with the Technical Product Owners to achieve "collective success" through clear individual accountabilities, leveraging strengths of both the business and technology organizations. Drive prioritization, manage different stakeholders across the enterprise, and resolve conflicts to align and advance product roadmaps and enhancements. Partner with Business Product Owners / Executive Directors to achieve and meet internal customers needs by aligning product roadmaps and initiatives. Partner with stakeholders, engineering and data teams to construct and maintain a stack ranked product backlog. Accountable to oversee delivery of analytical workbench platform capabilities that meets business needs via collection, alignment, and implementation of feedback from stakeholders while meeting larger business objectives. Responsible for collaborating with Senior Leaders within Digital, Data, and Analytics for capabilities such as a data science/AI workbench, analytics co-pilot(s), coding assessments, and visualization tools. Manage other AI applications that are used to drive and enable business use cases in a democratized or federated model across Genentech Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG); institute governance, standards, and best practices for the utilization of these applications. Steward ethical AI guidelines, responsible AI principles, and fairness and bias mitigation processes specific to Genentech Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG). Collaborate with end-user Activation Teams and Learning & Skills Development support training & change management, collect feedback, and measure impact. Manage resource allocation and investments across analytical workbench platforms, shifting and allocating resources effectively to ensure organizational strategic business priorities are met. Accountable for defining analytical workbench platform capability business cases and acquiring budgetary / funding needs, including ongoing P&L.
Drive definition of business and technical requirements for product usage & system health leveraging GNE and industry standards. Actively contribute to Roche's broader Digital, Data, and Analytics initiatives, sharing best practices and insights across teams. Train and mentor other team members, business partners and stakeholders on related domain expertise. Engage with business leaders and end-users to advocate for the data product, fostering trust. Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

Who You Are Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's in Business, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field. 8 years of combined experience in product management, data science, AI, software development or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of data analysis, data science concepts, methodologies and technologies. Ability to own and manage the analytical workbench platform product including visioning, roadmap creation, execution, and impact measurement. Expertise in driving product improvements based on measurement and optimization insights. Fluency / comfort with data systems, technology platforms, and integrations to inform strategic product decisions. Strong skills in budget management, resource allocation, and stakeholder alignment for cross-functional collaboration. Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent (direct or indirect). Excellent communication and leadership abilities to drive change, influence stakeholders, and evangelize the product vision. Experience working in an agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team. Experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to governance and regulatory standards, and help influencing & evolving standards where needed.
Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience
Advanced degree, or equivalent experience (e.g., Computer Science, MBA or related graduate-level qualification). Relevant certifications in product management, machine learning, data science, and other disciplines. Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industries. Proven success in managing large-scale, complex products requiring strategic planning and operational execution. Advanced knowledge of workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks. Deep expertise in and experience developing coding assistants, visualization tools, augmented analytics, citizen data platforms and data science workbenches.
Location
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $214,500 - $398,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
