Job Summary

The Director, Data Science/AI Product Owner is responsible for guiding and enhancing the Predictive AI/Agentic AI Platform Suite to support data-driven decision-making. This role involves defining the platform's vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities to drive business impact. This Director, Data Science/AI Product Owner works closely with senior leaders, technical teams, and business stakeholders to integrate predictive capabilities, manage resources effectively, and promote adoption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape the vision and product standards for Predictive AI/Agentic AI solutions, leveraging knowledge of industry trends and ensuring alignment with the organization's AI strategy.

  • Drive the development and execution of product roadmaps by balancing business needs, technical capabilities, and regulatory considerations.

  • Develop business cases to drive experimentation and innovation in AI applications, identifying opportunities for automation and augmentation within the enterprise.

  • Define target users in collaboration with Analytics partners, ensuring AI-driven solutions address user needs while maintaining compliance with ethical AI best practices.

  • Expertly drive alignment of roadmaps and initiatives with applicable Product Managers, Product Owners, and the Executive Director, Predictive AI / Agentic AI to meet user needs.

  • Serve as the central owner of AI product lifecycles, overseeing strategic planning, execution, and adoption to maximize business impact and efficiency gains.

  • Evangelize the role of AI-driven products, communicating their value proposition and strategic impact to senior leaders and enterprise stakeholders.

  • Drive prioritization and stakeholder alignment across AI product development, managing cross-functional collaboration and ensuring AI products meet business and technical objectives.

  • Collaborate with Technical Product Managers to ensure AI solutions align with enterprise architecture, governance standards, and technical feasibility.

  • Partner with other Business Product Owners to integrate AI capabilities seamlessly across digital ecosystems, ensuring interoperability and scalability.

  • Work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to construct and maintain a prioritized, stack-ranked AI product backlog.

  • Ensure effective collaboration with different teams to drive knowledge sharing, best practices, and efficiencies across AI initiatives.

  • Collaborate with customer experience professionals to ensure AI-powered products deliver intuitive, user-centric experiences with measurable value.

  • Accountable for delivering AI-driven products that meet business objectives through stakeholder feedback, iterative development, and robust performance measurement.

  • Lead the adoption strategy for AI-enabled solutions, partnering with training and change management teams to drive user engagement and sustained impact.

  • Drive definition of AI-related business requirements, ensuring adherence to industry and Genentech governance frameworks.

  • Coordinate with measurement and optimization teams to assess AI product performance and inform future enhancements.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

People

  • Lead, mentor, and manage Data Science product managers, fostering an exemplary employee experience, including a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

  • Provide guidance, training, and career development opportunities for team members.

  • Allocate and shift resources effectively to ensure balanced workloads and optimized team performance and business impact.

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's in Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 8 years of combined experience in product management, data science, AI, software development or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to own and manage the full product lifecycle, including visioning, roadmap creation, execution, and impact measurement.

  • Expertise in AI-driven product optimization based on measurement and feedback insights.

  • Strong understanding of predictive analytics, machine learning models, and agentic AI technologies.

  • Strong skills in budget management, resource allocation, and stakeholder alignment for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent (direct or indirect).

  • Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills to drive AI adoption and influence stakeholders.

  • Experience working in an agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team.

  • Experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to governance and regulatory standards, and help influencing and evolving standards where needed.

  • Ability to innovate and foster experimentation to improve product capabilities.

  • Proven ability to adapt and navigate ambiguous or evolving environments.

  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on balancing short-term execution and long-term vision.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree (MBA, M.S. in AI, Data Science, or related fields) or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industries.

  • Experience managing complex AI-driven projects requiring strategic vision and operational execution.

  • Advanced knowledge of workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks.

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $214,500 - 398,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
