Maxar seeks a seasoned Senior DevSecOPS Engineer to play a key role within a dynamic full technology stack engineering team. This team supports a large-scale Government Geospatial Information software system through both operational sustainment and new feature development. We are building and advancing a cloud-based collaborative geospatial mapping platform using commercial technologies to meet critical user needs. This senior position requires an engineer capable of designing solutions, tackling complex technical challenges, and contributing significantly across the technology stack.

Location: This role is open to remote workers in the immediate DC-metro region only (Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC) as in-person customer meetings will be required.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Be a leader in the design, development, and implementation of software engineering functions and processes for the mapping software stack.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues across networks, automation pipelines, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of mapping enclaves supporting multiple customers.
  • Actively contribute to and help define the technical roadmap for future platform integrations and capabilities.
  • Champion and enhance agile development practices within the team to effectively deliver requirements and expand capabilities for customers.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active TS/SCI security clearance. Must be willing and able to obtain a Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph.
  • Security+ Certification or ability to acquire
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field plus 10 years of relevant experience; Or, Master's degree with 5 years of relevant experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing CI/CD automation pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
  • Strong programming proficiency using JavaScript and/or Python, including experience with associated frameworks and testing methodologies.
  • Significant hands-on experience designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing solutions on cloud platforms, particularly AWS (including core services like EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, plus serverless and container services).
  • Experience integrating, extending, or significantly utilizing Open Source mapping software applications and libraries (e.g., PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers, Leaflet).

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker) and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles and tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within, contribute to, and potentially guide Agile/Scrum development processes.
  • Experience in Kubernetes cluster management and Helm chart development.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex, distributed systems (infrastructure, network, application, database).
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix operating systems, including system administration basics and scripting (e.g., Bash).
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation (design documents, runbooks, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or mentorship to junior team members.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience architecting highly available, scalable, and resilient systems in AWS.
  • Experience with database administration (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS tuning).
  • Formal or informal experience in technical leadership or leading development efforts on significant features/projects.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, load balancing, routing, firewalls).
  • Working knowledge and practical experience managing SSL/TLS certificates, PKI, and related security configurations (e.g., Keytool, OpenSSL).
  • Strong understanding of security best practices in cloud environments (DevSecOps).
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • SSL/Certificates/Keytool/OpenSSL knowledge.
  • Demonstrated engineering team leadership.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

The base pay for this position within California, Colorado, Hawaii, and the Washington, DC metropolitan area is:

$140,000.00 - $160,000.00

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
