Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Sales and Use Tax Filing Specialist to join our dynamic finance team. This role will be responsible for managing and filing sales and use tax returns across multiple states, ensuring compliance with state and local tax laws, and providing essential support to the accounting department. A strong accounting background with knowledge of tax processes is required to succeed in this position.

JOB DUTIES

• Prepare and file timely and accurate sales and use tax returns across various jurisdictions, including monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.
• Review and analyze sales transactions to determine correct tax treatment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of tax filings, payments, and supporting documentation for audit purposes.
• Reconcile sales and use tax liabilities and ensure timely remittance of payments to taxing authorities.
• Monitor and stay up to date on changes in tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable) to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate tax calculations.
• Assist with sales tax audits and support the resolution of any tax-related issues or questions from external auditors.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including tax-related accruals and adjustments.
• Additional roles and responsibilities as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in sales and use tax filing at a mid-to large company.
• Strong understanding of sales and use tax laws and regulations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
• Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and how they apply to tax filings.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with various departments.
• Ability to identify tax risks and suggest improvements in internal processes.
• Experience with state and local tax audits is a plus.
