Position Summary

Sony Corporation of America is seeking a Detection & Response Engineering (DRE) Intern to fill a remote (or hybrid) role encompassing security monitoring, detection engineering, SOAR engineering, incident response, and threat hunting. This position will operate as part of a geographically dispersed Cyber Defense Team (CDT) within the Global Security Incident Response Team (GSIRT), working independently on guided projects and tasks while maintaining strong communication and collaboration across the team. This position will report to the Associate Director, Detection & Response Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with security monitoring, detection engineering, and incident response activities
  • Support digital forensics and malware analysis tasks
  • Help identify and mitigate security control deficiencies and detection gaps
  • Contribute to improving team workflows through automation, including supporting integration and documentation requirements
  • Learn about the threat landscape including how it impacts business needs and informs detection and response methodologies
  • Design, implement, and present the results of a capstone project related to the team's detection engineering and/or incident response activities and objectives
  • Perform other duties related to cyber defense as assigned

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity and information technology
  • Basic understanding of computer systems and networks
  • Basic familiarity with popular public clouds such as AWS and M365/Azure
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
  • Ability to follow instructions and protocols, work independently, communicate clearly, multitask and manage priorities, and closely collaborate as part of a distributed team
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, and bash for automation is highly preferred
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and tools is highly preferred
  • Experience with log aggregation analysis and correlation at scale is preferred, including experience with one or more Security Information and Events Management (SIEM) platforms or data lake platforms
  • Ability to accurately track work via a ticketing system and documentation protocols

All candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.

The target hourly rate for this internship is $21.00 per hour. The individual will be paid hourly and eligible for overtime.
