Reporting directly to the President of WVUHS Medical Group (SMG), the Vice President is responsible to establish SMG as a high performing medical group of more than 1500 physicians and APPs. This will be achieved by building a highly engaged physician and APP workforce and creating the infrastructure that facilitates the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused care. This role involves fostering a unified culture aligned with WVU Medicine's strategic goals which includes but is not limited to developing a seamless onboarding process for new clinical partners, assuring resources and support to enhance physician and APP performance, and using checkpoints and data to monitor progress and facility new growth opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare, Business Administration or Management is required with a focus in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

  • Ten years of experience in health care with a minimum of five years of leadership experience in a health care setting is required.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Experience in an integrated healthcare delivery system is required.

  • Experience in a multi-specialty group practice plan of >500 providers is required.

  • Experience in an academic health system is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build Connections: Serve as a strategic partner and though leader to SMG President, UHA, corporate departments, local markets and other key senior leaders to engage providers in delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused care.

  • Infrastructure development: Partners with SMG President and other key stakeholders to identify and develop infrastructure needed to establish SMG as a high performing medical group of more than 1500 physicians and APPs.

  • Physician Compensation and Benefits: Supports the governance oversite and creation of market based, transparent, consistent and communicated physician and APP compensation plans.

  • Onboarding Process: Develop a seamless onboarding process for new clinical partners.

  • Support Physician Performance: Provide infrastructure and processes to enhance physician performance across medical groups.

  • Monitor Progress: Use checkpoints and data to monitor progress, establishing systems and processes to measure results.

  • Assess Operations: Identify opportunities for improvement and integration in current operations, policies, and processes, create processes to engage regional administrators and other operators to create measurable improvements.

  • Analyze Outcomes: Benchmark clinical and performance outcomes, ensuring accountability and consistency of care to achieve medical excellence, efficiency, and excellent patient experiences.

  • Quality and Safety: Work with leaders to refine and monitor quality metrics throughout SMG and support the maturity of infrastructure for quality and safety in collaboration with organizational partners.

  • Evidence-Based Medicine: Work in collaboration with Health System Integration to prioritize and implement initiatives to reduce practice and outcome variations, creating common processes and a universal patient experience where appropriate.

  • Team Development and Leadership: Leads and mentors a high-performing team and fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Physician Network Models: Assist in developing and implementing strategies for physician network models that strengthen relationships between SMG and WVU departments, as well as independent physicians.

  • Evaluate and Integrate Practices: Foster a unified culture aligned with WVU Medicine's strategic goals.

  • Explore Expansion Opportunities: In collaboration with appropriate WVU Medicine departments, create market-based analysis and recommendations for growth and service expansion within existing practices, start-up and acquisition.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand SMG: Support and lead where appropriate, the comprehensive understanding of SMG throughout WVU Medicine, including within UHA. Establish robust and positive relationships across the organization and within the medical group based on trust, transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect.

  • Operational Framework: Lead in the formulation and implementation of an operational framework that provides consistent, effective, and efficient practice management, fiscal discipline, strategic recruitment of providers, and the development of clinical quality programs.

  • Shared Service Infrastructure: Lead and/or support the formation of a highly effective shared services infrastructure that addresses both the unique and common needs of SMG and UHA, including but not limited to physician recruitment, coding, revenue cycle, credentialing, etc.

  • Physician Leadership Development: Partner with SMG President to implement a physician leadership development plan for key physician leaders and more broadly for interested and motivated physicians.

  • Governance Structure: Partner with the SMG President to develop a governance structure for the medical group. Transparently and proactively share performance information and engage leaders in opportunities to drive the strategic positioning and performance of SMG.

  • Integration of New Practices: Assure effective integration of new practices into SMG. Ensure operational and financial accountability of the physician practices; strengthen the financial performance and make sound, consistent business decisions while maintaining an empowered, entrepreneurial outlook.

  • Culture of Accountability: Create a culture of accountability within SMG by developing business analytics to include metrics and dashboards related to access, quality, and service.

  • Support Clinical Agenda: Assess practice performance and work with operations and finance partners to create or refine reporting tools that will track quality and financial metrics by physician and location. Create specialized plans for providers to grow their practice and maximize productivity.

  • Physician Compensation Plan: Partner with SMG President to continue evaluation and refinement of the physician compensation plan across all practices and gain the confidence of physicians that the plan is fair and accurate.

  • Ability to develop and implement operational frameworks and governance structures.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess operations, analyze outcomes, and monitor progress.

  • Knowledge of quality and safety infrastructure in healthcare settings.

  • Ability to create a culture of accountability and support clinical agendas.

  • Experience in developing physician leadership and compensation plans.
