Position Summary |
The Carolina Center for Public Service (
CCPS) engages and supports the faculty, students and staff of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in meeting the needs of North Carolina and beyond.
CCPS strengthens the university's public service commitment by promoting scholarship and service that are responsive to the concerns of the state and contribute to the common good.
APPLES Service-Learning is a student-led program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that transforms educational experiences by connecting academic learning and public service.
This position will work with a variety of programs managed by
APPLES, providing them with an opportunity to complete different tasks and strengthen many different skills, including event planning, program management, assessment, student support, technology development, and student recruitment. They will support the implementation and development of the following programs:
* The
APPLES Summer Internship program.
APPLES internships are unique, intense experiences in service for either the spring semester or summer. Students intern at a variety of nonprofit and governmental agencies, receive funding and are enrolled in a service-learning course.
* The
APPLES Student Learning Initiative program. The Service-Learning Initiative (
SLI) is a unique student-led introduction to service-learning and the local Chapel Hill-Carrboro community.
SLI introduces incoming first-year and transfer students to service.
*
APPLES Service-Learning Courses.
APPLES courses integrate the educational goals of a course with relevant community service aiming to increase students' understanding of the course content and its impact on local communities. Students in
APPLES courses complete 30 hours of service relevant to the course content with designated community organizations.
This Summer Service-Learning Coordinator will work directly with a
CCPS staff member, community partner supervisors, undergraduate students, campus partners, and occasionally with other staff within
CCPS and
APPLES. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
-Strong written and verbal communications skills
-Strong organizational skills
-Willingness to multitask and prioritize competing projects appropriately |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
-Interest in community engagement and/or higher education
-Interest in exploring new technologies and the opportunities they bring
-Interest in program management and assessment |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
