The Senior Data Management Professional will play a critical role in managing Devon Energy's well and geoscience data, with a primary focus on core, geochemistry, diagnostics, tests, labs, imagery, well logs, directional surveys, and geoscience interpretation data. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role oversees comprehensive data quality monitoring, drives improvements in data management processes, and ensures data standardization, governance, and accessibility across business units. This role will cultivate collaboration among geoscientists, engineers, and technology teams, while also engaging end users through training and support to promote a culture of data proficiency.

  • Establish, document, and maintain data management standards for naming conventions, file storage, and loading procedures (e.g., iPoint system).
  • Load, validate, and quality control (QC) core, lab/test, and geoscience datasets, ensuring high data quality and standardization.
  • Clean and maintain metadata (API numbers, datums, units) and support metadata and master data management initiatives.
  • Assist in managing well log and directional survey data for subsurface teams.
  • Support data profiling, quality measurement, and reporting activities to ensure data fitness for business use.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies and standards for subsurface and geoscience data.
  • Implement and monitor data quality rules, ensuring compliance with governance policies.
  • Oversee ETL processes and data movement, ensuring alignment with business needs.
  • Profile and measure data quality using advanced tools and analytics platforms.
  • Build trusted relationships with business units, corporate geoscience groups, and technology teams.
  • Identify automation opportunities and process improvements for data management workflows.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geosciences, Geology, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of relevant industry experience may substitute for a degree

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in oil and gas data management, data analysis, geoscience technician, business analysis, or related roles, preferably in E&P operations.
  • Experience managing core sample data, well logs, petrophysical data, and specialized geoscience data types.
  • Experience with geoscience data management and interpretation platforms (e.g., iPoint, EasyCore, IHS Kingdom, Petra, LAS WORX, Geographics, Petrel, Techlog).
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL), data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake), and data visualization/reporting tools (Power BI, Spotfire).
  • Familiarity with data governance best practices, E&P data models (PPDM, OSDU), and oil and gas data complexities.
  • Experience developing data quality standards, governance processes, and reports.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Generative AI and large language model (LLM) concepts.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira).
  • Experience with seismic data management is preferred but not required.
