Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers and designers in delivering high-performance building systems across a range of sectors. Your role will combine technical oversight with project leadership, ensuring that HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems are designed to meet client needs, code requirements, and sustainability goals.

Engineering Expertise:

  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices for HVAC and plumbing design in the Government, Healthcare, and Education industries.
  • Lead the design of HVAC systems (air handling units, chillers, boilers, VRF, ductwork), ensuring compliance with ASHRAE standards, energy codes, and sustainability goals, and integrating with BAS/BMS platforms through energy modeling.
  • Supervise the design of domestic water, sanitary, storm drainage, and specialty plumbing systems.
  • Ensure adherence to IPC codes and coordinate layouts with architectural and structural teams.
  • Review system sizing, pressure calculations, and fixture selections.
  • Oversee fire suppression system design (wet, dry, clean agent) in compliance with NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate with consultants and AHJs, and review hydraulic calculations and sprinkler layouts.
  • Review and approve engineering documents, specifications, and construction submittals.
  • Ensure technical accuracy, code compliance, and constructability of all mechanical systems.

Team Management:

  • Coach, direct, coordinate, and supervise mechanical section personnel.
  • Oversee employment and employee relations in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Identify team strengths and development needs; implement training programs with support from the Training and Development Department.

Technical Oversight

  • Ensure technical competency and quality of work performed by the mechanical team.
  • Seal discipline-specific documents in accordance with professional standards.
  • Review, modify, and approve discipline work plans and project change orders.

Project Execution

  • Support the Project Managers with client maintenance and business development.
  • Assist project managers in preparing proposals and client presentations.
  • Ensure Discipline Captains define and meet Quality, Budget, and Schedule (QBS) requirements.

Resource & Schedule Management

  • Prepare and monitor project work schedules and departmental workload forecasts.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and resources to meet project demands and deadlines.

Travel & Licensing

  • Travel required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Competitive Salary: $140,000 - $170,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and certifications.

Qualifications

Who We Need:

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional registration required.

Experience

  • 10-12 years of mechanical engineering experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in Government, Education, and/or Medical sectors.

Certifications

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
