About the Role:

As a content strategist in the Change Management and Learning Development practice area, you will collaborate with team members to support the goals of clients in creating new, user-centric, accessible websites.

Serving as a content strategist, your day-to-day role as a NYSTEC consultant will be to collaborate with the collective project team to develop and implement a user-focused content strategy that aligns with digital strategy and supports the needs of website end users.


Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy and User Experience Writing:



  • Develop and implement user-centered content strategies for digital platforms.
  • Write clear, concise, microcopy and instructional content to support intuitive user experiences.
  • Review websites, applications, and portals for consistent tone, voice, and messaging.
  • Conduct content audits and identify opportunities to revise, remove, or repurpose content from the existing client website.
  • Develop and maintain content guidelines, playbooks, and style guides.
  • Shape and improve information architecture (IA) in collaboration with the experience design (XD) team.
  • Identify and implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategies based on keyword research and user behavior.
  • Optimize content for accessibility in partnership with the accessibility team to adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Use research insights, data, and testing (including split [A/B] testing) to update and refine content.


Research and User Experience:



  • Conduct user research and usability testing to inform content decisions.
  • Create personas and user journeys to represent and prioritize key audiences.
  • Define user needs, pain points, and behavior patterns.
  • Identify and streamline key user flows and journeys across digital properties.


Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:



  • Partner with user experience/user interface (UX/UI) designers, product managers, developers, and other content creators.
  • Work with editors, writers, producers, and project managers to deliver cohesive content.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams (e.g., WebNY) to align content with broader web governance standards.
  • Stay informed on content trends, SEO updates, accessibility best practices, and emerging technologies.


This position will require working 50% onsite in Albany, NY.


About you:
Required Qualifications

  • One to three years of experience in content strategy or UX writing.
  • Ability to provide a portfolio showcasing UX writing and content strategy work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Figma and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional collaboration, research, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with or for federal, state, or local government agencies.


Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in communication or a similar discipline and at least one year of experience with UX writing and content strategy.
  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.


The target base salary for this position is $60,000 - $82,000 per year. When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including skill set, experience, location, and job-related qualifications.
