Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead - Military Electronics Development
Location: Manassas, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire-Client will hire successful candidate after 90 days
Company: ACARA Solutions, in partnership with a leading defense contractor
Position Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned and motivated Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead with a minimum of 5 years of hardware development experience to lead a cross-functional engineering team dedicated to the design and development of the Common Weapon Launcher (CWL) - a complex military-grade electronics system.
As an IPT Lead, you will be responsible for the technical planning, coordination, and execution of Engineering Development Model (EDM) systems. This role requires a hands-on technical leader with strong communication skills who can interface effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead Development Activities:
    Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of CWL hardware development, integrating efforts from electrical, mechanical, systems, and test engineering teams.
  • Technical Ownership:
    Build and maintain a comprehensive technical understanding of CWL systems and components throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Engineering Development Models (EDM):
    Manage design, procurement, assembly, and production of EDM systems, ensuring configuration control and design integrity.
  • Customer Interaction:
    Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer (U.S. Navy) engagements. Present designs, provide updates, and respond to inquiries at a technical level.
  • Documentation & Communication:
    Develop and present technical content including:
    • System-level design documents
    • Hardware Configuration Item (HWCI) specifications
    • Test plans and methodologies
    • Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)
    • Briefings and formal recommendations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Test Development & Execution:
    Design and document test methodologies for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT).
    Define and coordinate tester designs, interfaces, and requirements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of hardware development experience, preferably in defense or aerospace environments
  • Proven leadership experience on integrated product teams (IPTs) or as a technical project manager
  • Strong knowledge of military electronics, systems integration, and test methodologies
  • Ability to read and interpret hardware requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and engineering drawings
  • Experience interfacing with Department of Defense (DoD) customers
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Navy weapon systems or launch platforms
  • Familiarity with system-level requirements allocation and traceability
  • Proficiency with tools for design documentation, requirements management, and configuration control
  • Knowledge of environmental qualification standards such as MIL-STD-810
  • Background in testing and troubleshooting embedded or ruggedized systems
Work Environment & Conditions:
  • On-site work required at the Manassas, VA facility
  • Occasional travel for customer meetings and on-site test support may be required
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to the nature of the work; ability to obtain or maintain a security clearance preferred
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hardware development.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical experience to become an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead dedicated to the development of military-grade electronics, the Common Weapon Launcher (CWL) system.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Agile experience.
  • Have technical acumen, an educational background.
  • Familiarity with hardware and system integration testing (Assembly Level Test / Unit Test / Integration Test / System Performance Test).
  • Digital and analog electronics hardware development and troubleshooting experience.
  • Familiarity with the US Navy product development and shipboard qualification process.
  • Familiarity with the System Engineering Technical Review (SETR) process.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt to handling technical issues found in system integration labs, field environments, and during production.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
