Summary

Provides education, training and mentorship for staff in the sterile processing departments for the southern tier hospitals in accordance with regulatory bodies and certifying organizations.Collaborates with the leadership team in the planning and implementation of organizational and departmental goals. Creates a climate of innovation through role modeling, consultation, research, and facilitation of learning in collaboration with the clinical education team, departmental specific leadership, and department staff.

Job Duties

  • 1. Provide professional support to internal and external customers that meet the needs of their diverse age and cultural backgrounds.
  • 2. Encourages staff participation in seminars, meetings, in-services. Offers guidance to staff in pursuit of continued professional development.
  • 3. Provides education to staff on regulatory standards and compliance, current clinical practice issues, and safety standards.
  • 4. Coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates the orientation process for new unit staff.
  • 5. Participates in processes to determine unit competencies and to assure competence of staff. Collaborates with other departments to ensure consistency and to avoid duplication.
  • 6. Demonstrates expert skill and knowledge in central sterile processing, incorporating developmental, cultural and ethical considerations. Acts as a resource for staff members.
  • 7. Demonstrates ability to assess the need for, plan, implement and evaluate high-quality, cost-effective educational programs for staff.
  • 8. Promotes a culture of trust, dedication and compassion by modeling ethical principles.
  • 9. Participates in department-specific and hospital-wide quality improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or
  • High School Diploma/GED +5 years or direct experience with expectation to enroll enroll in associates program within (6) months of hire.
  • 2 years Sterile Processing experience
  • CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician IAHCSMM - State of Pennsylvania
  • CISA - Certified Information Systems Auditor - State of Pennsylvania

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
