    REPORTS TO Director of ML

    PURPOSE The job of Paraeducator Tutor ELL and World Languages is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom and resource center with specific responsibility for assisting in the assessment of students' English language acquisition; administering tests; performing classroom clerical tasks and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non-English speaking persons.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    IL Paraprofessional Certificate

    College degree, Teaching certificate preferred

    Essential Functions

    • Administers tests and make-up work, reviews homework assignments,etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.

    • Assists teachers for the purpose of determining students' needs and conveying information to appropriate instructional personnel and parents.

    • Assists students, individually or in groups, in ELL sheltered classrooms or the Language Lab, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

    • Implements, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

    • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

    • Orients new students and families, for the purpose of establishing familiarity with school and classroom procedures, programs, and required processes.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit pertaining to District 219.

    • Prepares logs, reports, and documents for the purpose of conveying information, providing written reference, and/or meeting mandated requirements.

    • Prepares a wide variety of instructional materials for the purpose of assisting teachers in the implementation of curriculum.

    • Provides time-limited supervision for the purpose of providing a positive learning environment.

    • Translates verbal and written communication(s) for the purpose of providing bilingual support for oral and written communications.

    • Tutors students under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of assignments.

    • Maintains the Language Lab in working order and supports teacher and student use.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Perform multiple tasks with potential need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions

    • Operate standard office equipment using pertinent software applications

    • Prepare and maintain accurate records

    • Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios

    • Read a variety of manuals

    • Write documents following prescribed formats

    • Present information to others

    • Understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions

    • Understand concepts of grammar and punctuation in both English and a second language

    • Be familiar with age-appropriate activities

    • Know board policy, district, state, and federal regulations/laws

    • Schedule activities and/or meetings

    • Collate data

    • Use basic, job-related equipment

    • Work with others in a variety of circumstances

    • Work with data using defined but varied processes

    • Operate equipment using standardized methods

    • Work with a wide diversity of individuals

    • Work with similar types of data

    • Utilize job-related equipment

    • Identify issues and create action plans

    • Independently interpret guidelines for problem solving with data

    • Solve moderate-level problems with equipment

    • Communicate with diverse groups, including those with limited English proficiency

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships



    RESPONSIBILITY

    Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
