Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent advanced degree.

  • Experience as a liaison to teacher education programs;
  • Experience working in a curriculum materials center;
  • Experience providing library instruction sessions and research consultations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of children's and young adult literature and public school curriculum.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison to assigned departments in the Reich College of Education, to other teacher education programs within the University, as well as to other disciplines as needed.
  • Participate in the IMC's undergraduate and graduate instruction programs by teaching information literacy classes, classes on children's and adolescent literature, and classes on the use of technology in K-12 settings.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group research assistance and consultations to students at all levels face-to-face, online, and through the research advisory program.
  • Consult with faculty members on course development, resource selection, and the development of assignments.
  • Maintain knowledge of the NC public school curriculum and pedagogical trends.
  • Assess IMC and information literacy instruction as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with librarians and with members of the Technology Services team to design, create, and evaluate reusable learning objects, tutorials, and other e-learning tools.
  • Engage in IMC collection management and development to include selecting materials for purchase and weeding sections of the IMC collection.
  • Design, operationalize, and implement outreach services for teachers and administrators in the RCOE Public School Partnership.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of author/illustrator visits, the Children's LIterature Symposium, and other IMC programming.
  • Engage in professional service as outlined in the University's Faculty Handbook and the University Libraries foundational documents.
  • Engage in an active program of professional development.

Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
