Primary Purpose of Position
The Energy Engineer will support the monitoring of the energy usage and performs cost analysis; support the strategic plan for University wide-energy needs; identify building mechanical problems impacting energy consumption; analyzes heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting systems to determine optimum operating conditions. Reviews plans and designs for building construction and makes recommendations regarding energy conservation and appropriate technology to ensure efficient energy and environmental compliance. Supports the campus utility bill management program.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • Identifies building mechanical problems impacting energy consumption; analyzes heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting systems to determine optimum operating conditions.
  • Performs walk-throughs to investment grade auditing to facilities that merit such work.
  • Supports the implementation of recommended equipment and operational strategies to maximize efficiency.
  • Supports the campus utility bill management program.
  • Monitors and support the utility metering systems.
  • Provides analysis on building energy utilities including electricity, gas, fossil fuels, water, sewer and renewable sources.
  • Develops load profiles, historical usage patterns by building function and system, unit costs and weather data.
  • Prepares written reports with analysis and recommendations.

Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment and four years engineering experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in facilities or energy related professions.
  • Experience understanding, evaluating and identifying inefficiencies with energy and water consumption.

Necessary Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid Driver's License Needed
Preferred Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors or certification as an energy manager (CEM/PEM) by AEE or equivalent authority.
