Buyer - Purchasing

Basic Function

The Buyer is responsible for procurement of goods, materials, services, furniture, and equipment for multiple MRIGlobal locations. Sources competent suppliers who provide high quality goods and services at a fair and reasonable price with on time delivery. Follows MRIGlobal purchasing procedures.

Nature and Scope

This position reports to the Manager - Purchasing and Materials Management. Promotes product knowledge and procedural information throughout MRIGlobal. Supports MRIGlobal Staff in procurement efforts.

Essential Functions



  • Reviews purchase requisitions and transfers information to the purchase order and makes the award.
  • Identifies sources of supply, solicits bids, analyzes quotations, and selects or recommends purchases to the purchase requester.
  • Performs negotiations to secure best pricing and payment and delivery terms.
  • Monitors timing of delivery of purchases and resolves delivery delays and quality discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepares various bid specifications, including information to bidders, general provisions, special provisions, and other pertinent bid documents. Maintains proposal-pricing spreadsheets and provides backup quote copies to Pricing Staff as needed.
  • Maintains up-to-date vendor files and ensures the purchase order file includes all supporting documents to reflect a complete and accurate history of the transaction.
  • Interfaces with Accounts Payable to assure that all questions concerning purchase orders are addressed and invoice issues resolved in a timely manner.
  • Participates in audit inquiries as required; responds to applicable audit findings with corrective action when necessary.
  • Assists with Purchasing Department special projects as directed by the Manager - Purchasing and Material Management.



Success Factors



  • Skilled negotiator with demonstrated knowledge of purchasing procedures and preparation of specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written), organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and execute in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with general business and basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment across organizational lines and effectively interact with vendors.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Experience with automated purchasing or accounting systems.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, deadlines, and time constraints.



Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in Business, Accounting, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a purchasing, accounting, or materials management environment or High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience.

Salary range is $49,194 - $62,830

The salary range is intended as a general guideline and is not a guaranteed offer, as compensation depends on various factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market conditions.
