About the Job

Position Overview

We are seeking a junior researcher to join our IGDI Lab team on the I-SPEAK project. The researcher will be employed at .50 time (consistently 20 hours/week) to support work within the I-SPEAK work scope. This position lasts one year from the date of hire.

This project focuses on measuring preschool age children's skills and abilities through an interactive game-based storybook assessment. We are seeking someone with experience working with preschool age children, experience with educational assessment, and a background in an area such as Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences, Child Psychology (or related disciplines).

This position will be housed at the Education Sciences Building but supports a flexible schedule and work arrangement. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Researcher (100%)

  • Lead and support data collection efforts in a large scale national research study in educational psychology.
  • Participate in data collection efforts locally and potentially at other national sites to support research objectives.
  • Coordinate data collection in school settings, including communicating with teachers and supporting hourly data-collection employees.
  • Contribute to project dissemination efforts including writing technical reports on research findings, creating instructional videos, and developing resource materials for educators.
  • Enter data and run descriptive analyses to address research questions.
  • Communicate with IGDI Lab staff and attend all meetings.
  • Take notes at meetings and provide additional meeting support.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least eight years.
  • Background in an area such as Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences, Child Psychology or related disciplines
  • Experience with data collection and research methods
  • Experience working with young children
  • Attention to detail and autonomous worker
  • Organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience with educational assessment
  • Experience with technology and digital applications
  • Desire to work with educators and young children
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $29.07 - $29.33. Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.
