JOB SUMMARY:
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program seeks a Senior Program Manager to provide leadership across all program operations. This role will manage projects and events, supervise junior staff and interns, engage with stakeholders, oversee fundraising and budgetary matters, and handle external relations.
Reporting directly to the Program Director, you will ensure operational excellence while helping create a positive and effective workplace environment.
We are seeking a rising professional with a demonstrated history of professionalism, accountability, good judgment, and growth potential in strategic planning and research portfolio management. This position offers increasing responsibility in all aspects of program management and opportunities to develop new initiatives within the Center.
The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000. Salary and title are based on the level of experience and expertise of the chosen candidate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Oversight
* Keep Director and Department leadership informed of all program developments
* Help prioritize initiatives appropriately
* Coordinate internally across programs and with departmental/corporate leadership
* Collaborate with staff to enhance public outreach, impact, and fundraising strategies
Project Management
* Oversee substantive and operational priorities for projects and initiatives
* Develop comprehensive planning and production schedules
* Coordinate with major supporters, partners, and internal offices
* Implement and manage new software solutions
* Serve as primary point of contact for public events and programming
Strategic Planning
* Assist in developing and managing overall program direction
* Establish short and long-term project timelines
* Coordinate with program experts on specific initiatives
* Conduct process assessments and improvements
* Foster a culture of effective ambition
Financial Management
* Manage all program finances including budgeting and expensing
* Develop project-related budgets
* Plan for long-term budgetary needs, fundraising, and program growth
Personnel Supervision
* Provide direct supervision to junior staff, interns, visiting fellows, and consultants
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional development
* Minimum 4 years of experience in program management and research, with non-profit experience preferred
* Experience designing, promoting, and creating media and follow-on products from public events and private convenings
* Demonstrated ability to enable high team achievement through operational excellence and proactive problem solving
* Knowledge of energy and international policy issues and the mechanics of Washington DC
* Excellent communication skills with ability to represent the program internally and externally in personal and professional communications
* Proficiency with office suites, social media platforms, project management solutions, and AI tools.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
This position will be based out of our Washington DC headquarters and is expected to be in-office 3+ days per week. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee working in an office environment.
