- Perform field assessments, stream and fluvial characterization; hydrologic data collection and water quality and sediment sampling; familiarity of stream and coastal hydraulic and geomorphic processes.
- Perform engineering analysis, design, and report writing tasks.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic and sediment transport; erosion and scour analyses; and FEMA floodplain mapping and modeling.
- Under the direction of a Professional Engineer: design and develop plans and specifications for habitat restoration and hydraulic structures including channels, ponds, levees, bank protection, scour protection, grade control, fish passage design of culvert and bridges, streambed materials, log jams, and tidegate structures.
- Provide construction observation and technical support to clients.
- Aid with developing proposals and managing scope of services, budgets, and schedules.
- Provide marketing, proposal, and client development support.
- Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
- Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health & Safety policy and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- 0-6 years of experience as hydraulic/civil engineer.
- Bachelor's degree in civil/hydraulic engineering
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certified
- Course work and/or project experience in one or more of the following areas: open channel hydraulics and environmental river mechanics, sediment transport, fluvial and/or coastal geomorphology, coastal hydraulics, hydraulic structures, hydrology, civil design, project and construction management, and survey.
- Software experience including AutoCAD Civil 3D, and or Bentley (Open Roads Designer), and Arc-GIS.
- Hydrologic modeling experience with HEC-HMS, MGS Flood, and/or WWHM.
- Hydraulic modeling experience with HEC-RAS1D/2D, HY-8, or SMS SRH-2D.
- Creative individual with client service focus desired.
- Ability to be self-directed and operate as a team member.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Personable, flexible, and professional demeanor.
- The ability to work independently with the appropriate level of OR minimal supervision.
- The willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices.
- A valid driver license and insurable driving record.
- Foundational experience with Microsoft Office 365 (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint [required]); MS Access (desirable).
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.
- Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain.
- The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state.
- The ability to get a pass for access to military facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Hydrologic modeling experience with WMS.
Level Placement Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Entry-Level Hydraulic Engineer typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, IV level.
