Position Overview

The Regional Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer's primary objective is to lead and guide all site safety activity. Based in Diboll, TX, this role will also support Alexandria, LA and Hope, AR. The PSM Engineer is critical in the identification of projects and execution of those projects that have been identified to reduce risk in the process areas. Providing insight to the execution of Hexion's strategic and tactical plan for all Health, Safety and Security matters for the manufacturing site is a key objective. The successful candidate understands the regulatory and tactical overlap of the Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Process Safety regulations. The Safety Engineer partners with and is a key resource for Safety/Operations training at the site. This position fosters a culture of engagement, empowerment, partnership and compliance through direction and oversight of programs that support Hexion's primary goal of an incident-free workplace. The Safety Engineer plans and directs activities ensuring alignment with the corporation's EHS goals and initiatives at the manufacturing site. The position provides leadership, coaching and technical expertise to site leadership teams and site associates to meet these goals. This person, partnering with site leaders, is charged with creating the protocols and practices ensuring we operate safely while producing our products.

Job Responsibilities


  • Provide oversight and define requirements for site operations to compile with regulatory applicability and local regulatory compliance with health, safety and security
  • Provide ongoing observations/coaching to associates to drive safety improvements and improve safety performance for the site
  • Partner with the site to deliver safety/operations training to associates; identify KPIs for measurement of success
  • Partner with Global Engineering team to identify, design and execute projects to reduce safety hazards in the workplace
  • Engage with associates at all levels to drive and support health and safety programs (e.g., workplace safety and contractor administration)
  • Assist in the development and lead implementation of health and safety programs
  • Actively participate on EHS project teams
  • Ensure delivery of safety training programs to instruct employees in site EHS policies and procedures
  • Focus on promoting and supporting an EHS culture from within by driving the implementation of core EHS programs, policies and initiatives
  • Lead incident investigations and drive corrective action through cause mapping and 5-why analysis
  • Be an active, engaged part of the site leadership team by interacting with associates remotely and in the field

  • Provide tactical direction and health and safety leadership for facilties

Operational EHS Management



  • Support regional execution of health and safety performance & cultural metrics
  • Local subject matter expert for key health and safety programs
  • Actively engage associates and site teams in the field
  • Provide opportunities for positive recognition
  • Lead and facilitate incident investigations and ensure a robust process is in place to determine corrective and preventive actions
  • Lead PHAs and other PSM processes to ensure EHS matters are fully addressed at all sites
  • Provide oversight and management of site health and safety related action items
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Safe Work Permitting process, Life Saving Rules, and other safety and environmental procedures
  • Participate in development and execution of site capital expense process relating to health and safety



Regulatory Compliance:



  • Support compliance assurance programs for all applicable local, state, and federal health and safety regulations
  • Have a working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and its applicability in chemical/industrial settings
  • Have a working knowledge of security requirements in chemical/industrial settings
  • Have a basic understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations to support the intersection of environmental regulations with health and safety compliance



Auditing and Management Systems:



  • Track and act on standardized EHS performance & cultural metrics on a routine basis consistent with company requirements
  • Identify and implement initiatives to drive continuous improvement
  • Administer, plan, coordinate, and execute company adopted EHS management systems & ensure the site complies and meets deadlines on all management systems
  • Conduct periodic assessments of sites' EHS programs including contractor activities
  • Support the corporate audit program and regulatory audits as needed

Minimum Qualifications


  • 7+ years' experience as a health and safety professional in a Chemical Manufacturing OR Oil & Gas environment
  • Experience in Process Safety Management required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and self-directed at times
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to effectively engage and build trust with all levels in the organization
  • Ability to lead and influence project teams and program execution
  • Passion for recognizing and leading positive change
  • Aptitude to lead and make challenging decisions in any situation


Education



  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering field such as electrical, industrial, chemical or mechanical OR 2 year technical degree and equivalent experience.
  • Professional engineer (PE) license and/or professional certifications (CSP/ASP) is a plus


Travel



  • Up to 35% domestic travel
