Primary Purpose of Department |
Based on the established Early Educator Support Office (
EES Office) Framework, approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education (
NCSBE ), the purpose of this program is to manage and expand the infrastructure for a statewide system of professional development and support to early childhood educators, with or eligible for a North Carolina Birth-through-Kindergarten (NC B-K) license, in nonpublic sites, thereby increasing local and state capacity to effectively provide services to all eligible teachers. The program ensures that all aspects of the services established under the
EES Office Framework is delivered in the designated region of the state, for eligible teachers in that region: those employed in nonpublic schools that hold, or are eligible for, the NC B-K license (NC Pre-K, Developmental Day, Head Start, Child Care). In order to receive services, teachers must be enrolled with the
EES Office. All processes and procedures established by the policies of the
NCSBE and the
DPI must be followed and implemented. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The Mentor/Evaluator serves as a pivotal support figure for designated non-public early childhood education lead teachers, specifically those holding or eligible for the NC B-K-License. Entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the highest standards of educational excellence, this role ensures the promotion of developmentally appropriate practices within classrooms. Utilizing the NC Educator Evaluation System (
NCEES ), the Mentor/Evaluator guarantees high quality classroom instruction aligned with the NC Professional Teaching Standards. This position is committed to delivering mentoring and evaluation services in adherence to the guidelines and procedures set forth by the
EES Office, always in accordance with the
NCSBE and
DPI policies. |
Summary of Position Responsibilities |
The
EESLPD Mentor/Evaluator sets a high standard of excellent practices by supporting assigned teachers in their geographical territory, utilizing the NC Teacher Evaluation System to improve classroom instruction. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a BA/BS degree in early childhood education or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred. Candidates must hold an NC Professional Educator License in the area of B-K. Candidates need to have spent at least three years as a lead teacher in an early childhood classroom and have experience with the NC teacher education and licensure system. Candidate must also possess knowledge of and experience with policies set by the State Board of Education (
SBE) and the Department of Public Instruction (
DPI). Candidates must also demonstrate prior experience in training, mentoring, and evaluating NC B-K licensed early childhood educators, either at the pre-service and/or in-service level. |
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
- Professional Knowledge - In child development and application of theory; adult learning theory and evidence-based practices in designing and delivering effective professional development; NC Professional Teaching Standards; NC Department of Public Instruction's Educator Effectiveness System; NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development; NC Pre-K and Developmental Day Program Requirements; NC State Board of Education Teacher Licensure Policy: Beginning Teacher Support Program; NC Department of Public Instruction's Mentor Standards and knowledge about NC educator licensure requirements.
- Knowledge of the EESLPD Framework (procedures, guidelines and implementation) is preferred. Technical Knowledge: Ability to use the NC Department of Public Instruction's Home Base/NC Educator Effectiveness System, database spreadsheets, Power Point presentations and Blogs.
- Skill for using technology and computer in daily work with teachers and colleagues.
- Strong oral and written communication skills- Ability to nurture, listen, guide, coach, support adults and build on strengths.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills - Ability to actively participate as a member of a mentor-teachers-evaluator team and a regional structure to meet program goals.
- Teamwork is essential to this position. Building collaborative partnerships - with site administrators and technical assistance professionals across sectors to support coordination of effective mentoring, coaching and evaluation of teachers being served.
- Ability to facilitate Professional Learning Communities - effectively support evidence-based teaching practices resulting in positive outcomes for children.
