This position is responsible for providing legal services in the areas of labor and employment issues, employee benefit plan matters, and labor relations, representing the company in administrative and legal proceedings and complex negotiations. Work closely with human resources on investigations and risk mitigation as well as training and compliance matters. Responsible for placing compliance, integrity, and safety as priorities in day-to-day work routine for self and others.

Location: Bend, OR

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university acceptable to the company; and
  • Juris Doctor (or equivalent) degree from an accredited law school acceptable to the company; and
  • License to practice law in Oregon; and
  • Minimum of five years' experience in the practice of law specializing in employment law and/or labor relations.
  • May be required to maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Experience in the practice of law in area(s) related to the Company's business and operations.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills in interacting with peers, management, and external parties.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, both on an individual level and team commitments.
  • Excellent analytical skills and independent judgment.


Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:



  • Provide legal advice to internal team members and management of Knife River Corporation and its subsidiaries, including senior management and human resources professionals throughout the company.
  • Provide legal services in such areas as employment law, employee benefit plan matters, labor relations, administrative proceedings, claims, training and compliance, and contracts.
  • Conduct internal investigations in conjunction with leadership and human resources professionals.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of outside counsel.

  • Qualified to undertake independent responsibility for assigned legal matters involving Knife River Corporation and its subsidiaries.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills in interacting with all team members at the company including peers, senior management, and external parties.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, both on an individual level and team commitments.
  • Excellent analytical skills and independent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of confidential and proprietary information.
