Survey Group Leader - California

DEA's is seeking a Survey Group Leader to sit in one of our California Region offices. The primary focus will be managing group utilization, staff supervision, and assessing needed capabilities within the region. A complete description of the role and responsibilities summarized below is available on Merlin. This Group Leader role reports to the Delivery Leader and assigned duties will be in addition to the selected individuals regular survey responsibilities.

Group Leader responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning and implementing client standards and expectations
  • Identifying incremental and/or new business development opportunities
  • Provide inputs for scope, schedule, etc. on projects and reviewing cost proposals
  • Serve as project manager or task leader when needed
  • Delivery of technical work by the Inland Northwest Survey team
  • Ensuring project managers have the technical resources needed to deliver projects successfully
  • Performance management of group members
  • Working with other leadership to ensure DEA health and safety standards are followed
  • Accountable for performance management for group members and applicable administration approvals such as time off, timecards, expense reports, and training
  • Recruitment and retention of staff
  • Balancing and managing group utilization
  • Working with other leadership to ensure DEA and Geomatics internal processes and procedures are followed

Knowledge/Competencies Expected:

Possesses knowledge of practice area related fields and areas of operation. Strong leadership, mentoring, networking, negotiating, partnering, and critical thinking. Able to communicate long-term strategies as well as set short-term plans and priorities. Demonstrated ability to achieve results through effective leadership, management of staff, and problem-solving skills for resolving issues. Collaborates effectively. Skilled at measuring risks, rewards, and costs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Professional Land Surveyor license in the United States preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in the land survey field preferred
  • Experience managing a team of office or field staff preferred
  • Experience working with CALTRANS preferred
