Overview

This is an entry-level facilities maintenance mechanic position. A strong mechanical aptitude is required. The ability to read blueprints would be beneficial to perform duties of this position. Knowledge in the use of a computer is required. This position will include performing tasks such as lamp replacement, air filter changes and minor facilities duties as assigned. Alternating shifts, flexible hours, weekends, holidays, on-call, and working alone are essential requirements for this position. This position also performs other duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to snow removal and special events. This position is also required to assist Healthcare Senior Maintenance Mechanics, Maintenance Engineers, and Senior Maintenance Engineers when called upon, or assigned by the Supervisor. The duties listed below are responsibilities of a Healthcare Maintenance Mechanic.
Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides a timely and effective response to unanticipated facility needs, minimizing risks to patient and team members, to maintain safety and avoid interruption of service.
  • Performs and manages assigned tasks including preventive maintenance and on-demand work orders, on equipment and buildings, withing the established time frames while meeting departmental expectations for quality of work.
  • Performs minor electrical, plumbing and HVAC tasks.
  • Assists in the completion of special projects including insulating, painting, demolition and general clean up.
  • Completes mandatory detail documentation of tasks performed including time spent performing tasks.
  • Effectively communicates with customers, peers and leadership.
  • This position provides potential opportunity to learn basic plumbing, electrical wiring, calibration of thermostats and hospital bed maintenance.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Maintain a valid driver's license

Have and maintain driving record per Mercy's HR-01 Fleet Safety policy

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must successfully pass the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check depending on position. Must successfully pass the WI Caregiver's Background Check and/or the IL Healthcare Worker Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but the incumbent must make minor decisions using independent judgment required in order to adapt to routine situations.
