Job Summary

Reporting to the Graduate Studies Director of Policy & Program Initiatives and the IET Application Delivery Manager, the Lead Platform Developer is a senior technical lead for the GradSphere platform, UC Davis' enterprise-grade solution built on the Appian platform for automating graduate education workflows and business processes. The Lead Platform Developer applies advanced software engineering works both autonomously and in collaboration with one or more other developers to deliver business process automation and workflow solutions using the Appian platform. The Lead Platform Developer is an experienced professional who uses their creativity and experience to achieve impactful and sustainable results; analyze problems and issues of diverse scope to determine solutions; independently perform the full range of responsibilities within the function; and possess interpersonal skills for leadership and collaboration within a team.

The Lead Platform Developer contributes in all phases of the software development life cycle: new solution design, coding and development, platform maintenance, systems and process analysis, application of secure software development best practices, troubleshooting and maintaining integrations with other campus systems, business and technical support, or a combination of these and other IT functions. The Lead Platform Developer is responsible for design and development of interfaces, process models, expression rules, and other components of the Appian platform. They also contribute to testing plans and quality assurance, deployment and monitoring, and maintenance and support. They provide insights to project leaders that inform decisions on the product roadmap for feature development and enhancements, and requirements for secure and sustainable operations.

Graduate Studies partners with the campus Information and Educational Technology (IET) unit for IT operations and strategic planning. The Lead Platform developer has a reporting responsibility to the Application Delivery Manager of IET Enterprise Infrastructure Services for review of technical work, and the Lead Platform Developer is expected to work closely with IET counterparts to maintain integrations, platform security, and other requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience /training.
  • 7+ years of professional experience or equivalent working as an application programmer or developer in a low-code platform (e.g., Appian).
  • In-depth knowledge of web application design and development frameworks (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, etc.)
  • Experience working in low-code application platforms to create interfaces, workflows, and other software components to support business requirements.
  • Experience as a developer or lead developer in data modeling, RESTful API queries, SQL, JSON, and skills in other complementary platforms; experience with automated testing, monitoring, deployment and other DevOps best practices.
  • Communication and collaboration skills to complete work successfully with technical development teams, non-technical campus/business partners, and platform users.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Senior or Lead Developer Certification in the Appian platform.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, management information systems, or related field and/or a technology-focused master's degree.
  • Proficient in software architecture, design, analysis, and documentation.
  • Experience developing on the Appian platform.
  • In-depth knowledge of the UC policy and applicable laws and legislation governing privacy, such as the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Experience working on software development projects that use current project management paradigms (e.g. agile, scrum, kanban), version control (e.g. GitHub, Bitbucket), and tools (e.g. JIRA, SmartSheet, Trello, etc); experience with cloud infrastructure providers such as AWS, Azure, and/or Google CloudPlatform (GCP).

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
