As a Staff Geologist based in our Raleigh, North Carolina office, you will contribute to environmental projects across central and eastern North Carolina. This position involves both fieldwork and office tasks related to site assessments and geological studies, addressing various contaminants for clients. You will work with a team of professionals to gather, analyze, and interpret geological data, and compile reports. Independent decision-making is essential for handling a varied workload. Our geologists are experienced in working at contaminated locations, leading field operations, and drafting planning documents and reports.

What You'll Do:



  • Field Data Collection and Characterization: Conduct fieldwork at project sites using construction machinery, drilling rigs, and contamination control measures. Utilize GPS, PID, CGI, and data loggers to gather environmental data. Collect samples of surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, and indoor air. Participate in Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs). Keep comprehensive field notes and records.
  • Project Management: Manage intricate field activities such as site assessments, drilling operations, and sample collection. Plan projects in coordination with laboratories, drilling teams, and vendors. Communicate proficiently with team members, management, clients, regulatory bodies, and on-site personnel, both verbally and in writing.
  • Report and Proposal Preparation: Aggregate and interpret geological, hydrogeological, and environmental data. Create detailed lithologic cross-sections and reports. Support technical writing by reviewing and analyzing data from laboratories, field reports, maps, drawings, and tests. Under the guidance of a licensed professional, act as the primary author for reports and develop scope and fee proposals for small to medium-sized projects.



What We're Looking For:



  • A Bachelor's in Geology, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of related Geology experience
  • A Geologist in Training (GIT) certification, or are on track to obtain
  • Analytical thinking to solve problems, with expertise in environmental sampling, testing methods, and regulatory requirements (EPA, NCDEQ)
  • Experience with field equipment (groundwater pumps, field meters)
  • OSHA 1910.120 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training, a plus
  • Knowledge and ability to use ArcView and AutoCAD is a plus

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
