Position Summary

The Asset Manager provides performance monitoring, reporting, guidance, and support for assigned CPS Energy owned and contract generation assets along with any generation assets operated by CPS Energy. Specific duties include providing data collection, validation, trending, performance analysis and reporting in support of commercial optimization. Under the direction of the Sr Director, Asset Management, the Asset Manager will work closely with plant teams, Business Systems, Market Operations, Compliance, Environmental, Regulatory Affairs, and other groups / agencies / businesses as needed to support ongoing asset operations and performance optimization. The Asset Manager will support assigned asset due diligence evaluations, including community engagement functions in support of generation planning and procurement.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Monitor, collect, validate, process, store, and retrieve unit performance data to support business reporting and analytics needs for assigned assets.
  • Provide information and reporting needed by Energy Supply compliance group to maintain appropriate oversight / controls and close coordination with corporate compliance.
  • Support generation commercialization activities for assigned assets including appropriate notifications, coordinating ERCOT modeling data submittals, SCADA and PI system development and updates, regulatory filings, documentation submittals, etc. with appropriate groups.
  • Represent CPS Energy ownership interests by providing direction and support to assigned partner operating assets.
  • Provide real-time and periodic trending, analysis, and reporting of unit and plant performance.
  • Prepare, coordinate internal reviews, and manage submittals of plant performance data to regulatory agencies.
  • Support the development and optimization of planned unit outage schedules with Power Generation and Market Operations teams.
  • Trend and report unit outage (planned, maintenance, forced) performance, schedule compliance and lost opportunity costs.
  • Work with Power Generation, Market Operations, Government Relations, and others as needed or as directed by the Sr Director Asset Management to identify emerging issues / opportunities including changes in regulations, supply chain, power / commodity markets, and technology. Champion development and implementation of process changes needed support projects, or value-add projects.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of non-fuel plant utility services (potable water, waste management, electric power, etc.) assuring adequacy, requirements compliance, and continuity. Work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Support the development and implementation of long-term power generation planning efforts including the evergreen evaluation process providing regular performance analysis, modeling, reporting, and reference materials. Coordinate related meetings with community and oversight groups.
  • Work with Market Operations and Power Generation to develop and implement origination plans for available generation. Provide regular performance analysis and reporting.
  • Support strategy development for maintaining and/or improving key performance measures.
  • Coordinate Asset Management continuous improvement programs and initiatives providing regular reporting.
  • Support development and maintenance of an Asset Management organization culture that drives employee engagement.
  • Foster a safe and customer focused work environment.
  • Maintain positive, effective communications.
  • Support business planning, risk management, and budget development processes providing data, analysis, and industry benchmarking.
  • Monitor and report budget and business plan performance (monthly, quarterly, annually) for all assigned assets.
  • Utilize energy and ancillary services transaction data to support settlement, invoice processing, accounting, and other reporting.
  • Support compliance with target budgets, business unit priorities, and policies.
  • Champion and report project value-capture validation. Work with Power Generation and Market Operations to establish testing plans and to coordinate implementation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Comprehensive yrs of exp in electric power industry, including demonstrated responsible exp in wholesale power market operations, energy marketing, independent system operations, power or gas trading, or management of a Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE).
Working knowledge of ERCOT protocols, PUCT guidelines, and North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) standards.
Working knowledge of power generation plants, technologies, fuel economics, load forecasting analytics, utility cost accounting and Operations Technology (OT) systems.
Operates successfully in ambiguous situations where success is not pre-determined.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with customers, business leaders, management, and matrix team members.
Excellent problem solving and thought leadership skills; able to see the big picture and bring in other areas of the company as needed, but also to "dive deep" when appropriate.
Ability to proactively identify risks, collaboratively problem solve, and routinely communicate status (positive or negative).
Strong people and demonstrated leadership skills with bias for a collaborative working style.

Must pass and maintain NERC-related background check.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail, and scheduling.
Possess a valid driver's license with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPSE policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Advanced Degree in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, or applicable discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating contracts and purchase agreements.
  • Working knowledge of Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) standards.

Bachelor's degree of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, or other applicable discipline.
