Media/Storytelling and Food Studies, Adjunct Faculty Member |
Job Summary |
We seek an adjunct faculty member with expertise in audio (and possibly video) media teaching and production, who is committed to linking theory and practice of in context of studying food hubs and food traditions. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate deep engagement with storytelling and media production along with past experience with (i) community-based projects/partnerships with an organization or group and (ii) interest in or past experience connecting media and food, ideally in the Olympia WA region. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Evergreen's team-teaching coordinated studies model, and will have demonstrated experience utilizing media as a tool for collaborative modes of inquiry, education and problem-solving. They will have the knowledge and flexibility to teach to students with a variety of backgrounds and interests, and be able to connect the topics of media and food to different constituencies and issues. The ability to engage in on- and off-campus collaborations, as demonstrated through personal work and teaching, is required. Experience in teaching, as well as a commitment to working with diverse and underserved student populations and to working across significant differences (race, class, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) are also required. We are particularly interested in candidates committed to exploring how media can be used to further community collaboration and expand access to media practices. |
Job Expectations |
The faculty will teach in the full-time, team-taught, 16-credit program, "Food and Media: Making fresh food close" (https://www.evergreen.edu/catalog/offering/food-and-media-making-fresh-food-close-50368) in fall quarter 2025. Faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter, and this program could include up to ~50 students, depending on student interest. This arrangement allows for in-depth, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, and the building of strong learning communities. Faculty are also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration.
Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome and all can learn from each other.
This is an adjunct faculty position and not eligible for continuing appointment. All requirements for the position must be completed at the time of hire. Salary for all positions is based on experience and degrees (see
Salary Grid for more information). We do not offer relocation expenses for our adjunct faculty positions.

Minimum Qualifications |
* Masters degree or other advanced degree relevant to the position
* Demonstrated experience in media production, including but not limited to audio production
* Demonstrated experience with on- and off-campus collaborations * Teaching experience
* Commitment to working with diverse and underserved student populations |
Preferred Qualifications |
* Experience connecting media and food, especially in the Olympia, WA region |
Conditions of Employment |
* As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work.

Salary Information |
$14,546-$32,790. Faculty membership is unranked with salary determined on a non-competitive, open scale based on earned degrees and years of relevant experience. |
