Position: E&I Journeyman
Location: Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Pay: $39.09 - $42.16 (Based on Experience)
Shifts:1st shift; 7 AM - 3 PM

While reporting to the Plant Engineer, as an E&I Journeyman you must be able to meet all physical and vision requirements. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have the ability to work with various teams and be dedicated to providing quality product in a safe manner. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail. Day to day responsibilities include:
Trains apprentices and others as required. Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical and control systems and equipment. Locates, diagnoses and repairs electrical malfunctions Inspects and tests electrical equipment as required. Troubleshoots and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects. Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributive Control Systems (DCS) and configuring controllers for required troubleshooting. Assists with plan layouts, running conduit, and wiring for new installations. Performs general housekeeping duties, inspections and other duties as assigned by supervision. Must participate in specialized instruction/training provided by Sonoco or vendors Must do considerable amount of bending, stooping, reaching, turning, and twisting. Must climb and work in high places, e.g. 40-50' elevated bridge cranes, overhead lighting, reflectors, etc. Must operate programmable controllers, configure and service process controls for required troubleshooting. Must operate and use conduit benders, threader, hand tools, etc. Must work with voltages up to and including 4160 volts, e.g. high voltage switch gear, etc. Must read and update blueprints and schematic diagrams. Must have a telephone and live within a reasonable commuting distance of the mill. Expected to respond to call-ins, possible shift work, overtime, Sundays and holidays as required.
This position is in our Paper Mill plant in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
We expect you to be Sonoco mission driven. Previous experience in the paper industry is extremely helpful. You have to have a "get it done" attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks. To succeed you must learn basic computer functions and be able to read and use measuring devices. Working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously is needed. Must have completed a State Indentured Electrician or Instrumentation Apprenticeship program or equivalent. Must be able to lift over 300 lbs. occasionally in teams of three. Must be able to lift 50-70 lbs. regularly. Must be able to distinguish colors. Must have flexibility, reach and body height consistent with job responsibilities. Must have a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
