E&I Journeyman

While reporting to the Plant Engineer, as an E&I Journeyman you must be able to meet all physical and vision requirements. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have the ability to work with various teams and be dedicated to providing quality product in a safe manner. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail.

Day to day responsibilities include:

• Trains apprentices and others as required.

• Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical and control systems and equipment.

• Locates, diagnoses and repairs electrical malfunctions

• Inspects and tests electrical equipment as required.

• Troubleshoots and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects.

• Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributive Control Systems (DCS) and configuring controllers for required troubleshooting.

• Assists with plan layouts, running conduit, and wiring for new installations.

• Performs general housekeeping duties, inspections and other duties as assigned by supervision.

• Must participate in specialized instruction/training provided by Sonoco or vendors

• Must do considerable amount of bending, stooping, reaching, turning, and twisting.

• Must climb and work in high places, e.g. 40-50' elevated bridge cranes, overhead lighting, reflectors, etc.

• Must operate programmable controllers, configure and service process controls for required troubleshooting.

• Must operate and use conduit benders, threader, hand tools, etc.

• Must work with voltages up to and including 4160 volts, e.g. high voltage switch gear, etc.

• Must read and update blueprints and schematic diagrams.

• Must have a telephone and live within a reasonable commuting distance of the mill.

• Expected to respond to call-ins, possible shift work, overtime, Sundays and holidays as required.

This position is in our Paper Mill plant in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

• We expect you to be Sonoco mission driven.

• Previous experience in the paper industry is extremely helpful.

• You have to have a "get it done" attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks.

• To succeed you must learn basic computer functions and be able to read and use measuring devices.

• Working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously is needed.

• Must have completed a State Indentured Electrician or Instrumentation Apprenticeship program or equivalent.

• Must be able to lift over 300 lbs. occasionally in teams of three.

• Must be able to lift 50-70 lbs. regularly.

• Must be able to distinguish colors.

• Must have flexibility, reach and body height consistent with job responsibilities.

• Must have a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
