Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a detail-oriented and highly dependable Communications Dispatcher to join our Campus Safety & Security team at the Daytona Beach campus. This role is central to the operation of the Campus Safety Communications Center and plays a key part in ensuring a safe and responsive environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The Communications Dispatcher is responsible for handling all incoming and outgoing communications, coordinating emergency responses, monitoring alarms, providing visitor support, and activating emergency notification systems when required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and dispatch Campus Safety & Security operations in accordance with established procedures for emergency and service calls.

  • Accurately document incidents, contacts, and staff activity into the Records Management system.

  • Provide directions, assistance, and information to visitors, students, parents, and university staff.

  • Monitor and respond to fire, security, and emergency alarms and notification systems; coordinate with external emergency response agencies as needed.

  • Execute emergency notification procedures and make internal staff notifications as outlined in operational protocols.

  • Maintain and regularly update internal directories, access lists, after-hours contact info, and emergency procedures.

  • Manage and document all property processed through the Lost and Found.

  • Issue temporary and permanent parking permits to students, staff, and visitors.

  • Provide clear information about parking policies and procedures, including guidance on the appeal process when necessary.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • * High School Diploma or GED.
  • * At least 1-3 years of work-related experience.
  • * Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • * Ability to write legibly, speak clearly, and manage multiple and sometimes stressful tasks (involving radio, phone, and personal communications) at the same time.
  • * Must be able to compose brief communications for the campus emergency notification system.
  • * Computer knowledge is mandatory to include proficiency with Microsoft operating systems and ability to learn various ERAU software systems.
  • * A pre-employment drug screening is required and candidate is subject to random drug screening during employment period.
  • 32-hour, C-Shift position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or certification in emergency management, emergency operations center, or prior 911 dispatching / telecommunicators is highly desirable.
