Thomson Reuters is seeking an exceptional Manager, Legal Operations to join our General Counsel's Office (GCO) and drive transformative change in our legal operations through advanced AI implementation and process optimization. This leadership role will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day legal operations of the GCO, with a focus on innovating and optimizing our processes, leveraging cutting-edge technology and AI solutions, including Thomson Reuters products, to enhance the delivery of legal services and drive business value.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned legal operations expert with a unique blend of legal, technical, and business acumen, gained through experience as a practicing lawyer or paralegal, preferably leading a mature legal operations function. A deep understanding of legal processes, workflows, and technology-enabled solutions, including Thomson Reuters products, is essential, as well as a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams, managing complex projects and driving change initiatives.

About the Role
In this opportunity as Manager, Legal Operations, your key responsibilities will be:

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Help the department set its annual & long-term goals to enable growth in alignment with our corporate strategy.Track to and report on these objectives.
  • Lead, develop and mentor a small, global team of legal operations professionals and specialists.

Technology and Process

  • Evolve our technology and innovation roadmap, and develop or enhance maturity in all key areas - eBilling, workflow and document automation, self-service, knowledge management, document management, matter management, eSignature, etc.Drive the adoption and usage of technology and AI tools, including Thomson Reuters products, across the general counsel office.
  • Examine existing processes and workflows and capture opportunities to make things simpler and automated.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to develop and maintain playbooks, templates, and other knowledge-sharing resources.
  • Develop change management strategies to train, encourage, and support the staff to evolve our ways of working.

Outside Counsel and Legal Vendor Management

  • Partner with procurement, accounts payable and members of the General Counsel's Office to ensure value with our vendors, monitor forecasts vs. actuals, support process definition and training and all other aspects of vendor and outside counsel management, including reporting on all of these. Help to optimize processes to engage outside counsel and manage outside counsel spend.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including across the general counsel office, technology, segments, product and other business leaders.
  • Develop and deliver training and communications materials to promote awareness and adoption of AI tools and other new technologies.
  • Provide regular updates and feedback to stakeholders on project progress and outcomes.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Development and management of the General Counsel's Office annual operating plan, to include forecasting and accruals. Participate in strategic planning process to determine future headcount and spend by practice and geography. Works closely with Finance and HR as key stakeholders and partners.

Data & Analytics

  • Develop maturity in all areas of our use of data and analytics, especially within our Commercial practice group. Develop and refine dashboards for use by Chief Legal Officer and GCO Leadership Team.

Industry Engagement

  • Engage with external industry groups to stay current on emerging industry trends and best practices.
  • Identify and evaluate new tools and technologies that can enhance the delivery of legal services.

About You
You're a fit for the role of Manager, Legal Operations if your background includes:

  • JD/LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification, or extensive paralegal experience with demonstrated expertise in legal operations transformation.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in legal operations management, with a proven track record of implementing technology solutions in a legal environment.
  • Deep understanding of legal workflows.
  • Excellent communication, project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data and metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters legal products and services preferred.
  • Certification in legal operations, project management, or a related field a benefit.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.
For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $99,400 - $184,600.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
