Position Overview:
The University of Virginia's School of Engineering and Applied Science is seeking a Systems Integration Engineer to support and advance our growing technical infrastructure. This role plays a key part in the design, implementation, and support of critical systems used in research and instruction. The successful candidate will work closely with a cross-functional team to ensure that systems are configured properly, operate efficiently, and support the School's mission of innovation and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the design and development of configurations, complex workflows, and system integration procedures. Document deployed systems and their integration points for future reference and audit compliance. Execute test plans, including regression and white box testing, during module integration. Collaborate on the formulation of system specifications and assist with modifications or maintenance of applications using manufacturer tools and updates. Configure operating system application architecture and perform ongoing enhancements, application upgrades, and tuning. Support data conversion, development of interfaces, performance/load testing, and application security. Design, code, test, debug, and document software programs to automate, monitor, deploy, and support complex systems. Perform routine testing of high availability, disaster recovery, security, and backup systems. Maintain staging environments for pre-deployment testing and verification. Provide technical assistance and end-user support for system applications. Assist peers and system programmers in leveraging developed systems effectively. Implement disaster recovery and ensure compliance with high-availability protocols. Manage and support a large array of Linux (Ubuntu) servers for research and instructional use, as well as Windows-based infrastructure servers. Administer and support large-scale storage systems using ZFS. - Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Experience: Less than one year of experience is required. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Licensure: None required. - Physical Demands:
Primarily a sedentary role with heavy use of desktop computers. Occasional travel to attend meetings and events. Periodic lifting of servers or equipment, up to 30 pounds. - Additional Information:
