JOB SUMMARY

The Test Engineering Technician will support Test Engineers and work closely with Test Maintenance and Test operations to design, specify, procure, commission and maintain Test equipment in addition to simplify/automate test process.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support/Lead capital projects - Define/provide feedback on technical aspect, identify risk and mitigation steps, Develop Installation & Commissioning plan.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement projects towards test process Automation/simplification and improving efficiency, accuracy, robustness, and safety.
  • Develop equipment preventive maintenance plan for proper test equipment functioning.
  • Define equipment specifications and work with vendors to develop and/or improve test equipment capability. Define/Change test circuits as required to configure power transformers and test equipment for appropriate tests.
  • Provide support and expertise to Test maintenance for troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance.
  • Supporting transformer testing activities as required.
  • Create transformer test reports, provide technical support to troubleshoot during test and post failure investigation. This includes support during off shifts and weekends. Develop diagnostic test plan, define re-test requirement, and provide data/interpretation during failure reviews.
  • Review test safety practices including conducting risk assessment and identifying improvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Development/troubleshooting knowledge of software and automation for National Instrument LabVIEW, Visual Studio, Visual basic, C, C++, HMI and/or data-logger
  • Knowledge of computer and electronic applications for circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software including applications and programming
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering, electricity, and magnetism to conduct standard production tests on transformers
  • Must be willing to work overtime with no advance notice to perform emergency repairs
  • Possess industry knowledge and IEEE standards related to power Transformer testing.
  • Familiarity with developing automated and/or High Voltage test Equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematic blueprints, as necessary.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of safety issues regarding power equipment and general high voltage substation environment (Electrical clearance, grounding, PPE, etc.)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Associate degree in electronics technology/Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years' experience with developing test automation or Instrumentation or a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Associate/bachelor's degree in electronics technology/Electrical Engineering with the one or more experiences below
    1. Development of Test system architecture and creating module-level interfaces
    2. Expertise in Real-time Data Acquisition, Analysis, Control, and monitoring systems
    3. Experience in industrial controls or automation or Instrumentation
    4. Experience in design and development/Debugging of LabVIEW based ATE (Automated Test Equipment) using PCI, PXI, NI DAQ, Serial, NI LabVIEW
    5. Knowledge of analog and digital circuits with expertise in troubleshooting complex electronic circuits, components, and instrumentation
    6. Development/Repair/troubleshooting of High Voltage Test Systems.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally work at heights (Lift, Transformer Cover) with fall protections

Working Conditions

  • Shop-floor and office environment, located on a large manufacturing campus.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit, walk, climb, balance, push, pull, carry, work below waist level and foot use. Ability to work at heights up to 50 feet
