Quality Control Specialist II

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Data Quality Control Director, the Quality Control Specialist II will perform a variety of duties including serving as key point-of-contact for CRGC's e-path and education activities. In addition, this position will work collaboratively to assist with audits, data reviews, SEER Edits, de-duplications, and other duties as required.

This is a high productivity position, and the Quality Control Specialist II must be able to maintain productivity goals. This is a reading-intensive position as nearly all aspects of this position are performed on a computer and from reading online source material. The Quality Control Specialist II must be able to work independently.

This is a regular full-time position located in Sacramento, CA. This position may allow for remote work and is expected to work during core business hours for the Pacific time zone. Some travel may be required.

Full salary range for this position: $84,177 to $124,412 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $84,177 (minimum) to $104,295 (midpoint). The starting salary is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity consideration and budget availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Serve as CRGC's e-Path point of contact and liaison for facilities, physicians, lab managers, hospitals, reporting facilities, researchers, and the CRGC staff.
• Coordinate with the CCR and laboratory partners involving the recruitment of pathology labs to report electronically in a standard format and to improve data quality, completeness, and timeliness based on results of CTQ reports of individual labs.
• Provide training resources, updated SEER SINQ's, CHATS, and News Broadcasts.
• Participate in data quality, production, and regional registry meetings and teleconferences as required.
• Submit queries to the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results program (SEER) and the American College of Surgeons CaNSWER Forum); monitor responses and compare to cancer registry standard documents; notify regional registry staff and cancer registrars of updates.
• Participate as needed with SEER and the CCR on education and training development activities.
• Participate in designing, coordinating, and conducting quality control audits within CRGC including the preparation of reports to the Data Quality Control Director, CRGC Senior Director of Operations, and other CRGC staff as required.
• May collaborate with the central registry to accommodate and facilitate CDC quality control audits as required.
• Assist with other Data Quality Control Unit duties including but not limited to data reviews, SEER Edits, de-duplications, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in a broad range of cancer registry functions, including case identification, abstracting, coding & quality control activities.
• Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field, or substitute with four additional years of related experience.
• Credentialed by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS).

Other Qualifications

• Maintain high level of current knowledge of cancer with regard to staging, histology, treatment and abstracting and coding principles.
• Knowledge of Central, Regional and Hospital Cancer Registry Operations.
• Knowledge of the Cancer Reporting System in California including confidentiality of patient information.
• Knowledge of project management processes.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge of cancer diagnosis, staging and treatment and abstracting and coding principles including knowledge of the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology Coding, SEER Extent of Disease Coding, Collaborative Staging.
• Knowledge of standards and guidelines from standard-setting organizations.
• Excellent management skills including the establishment of workload.
• Knowledge of computer system logic for writing/interpreting computer edits and consolidation logic for data items to be incorporated into the cancer registry database.
• Knowledge of word processing and database programs.
• Knowledge of standards and guidelines from standard-setting organizations
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
• Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to pass the background checks required for this job.
