Your role with us

As a maintenance engineer at Salem Health, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of our central energy plant (CEP) and associated building systems, performing complex repairs, maintenance, and installations of critical infrastructure such as boilers, chillers, and generators. You will work closely with various stakeholders to resolve emergency situations, optimize energy efficiency, and maintain a safe and efficient facility. This role requires strong technical skills in mechanical and electrical systems, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities to ensure seamless operations and patient care.

What you'll do

  • Performs complex repairs, maintenance, installations, and modifications to hospital equipment and building systems, including mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, to ensure optimal functionality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations on systems and equipment, troubleshooting issues and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure patient care continuity.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of maintenance and operational activities in electronic maintenance management system, ensuring data-driven decision-making and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicates effectively with customers, co-workers, and leadership, providing timely updates and pertinent information regarding maintenance requests, project status, and system performance.
  • Monitors and procures facilities maintenance supplies, managing inventory levels and optimizing resource allocation to support maintenance operations.
  • Participates in departmental initiatives and decision-making activities, contributing technical expertise and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and innovation.
  • Assists in training and development of junior staff members, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance team performance and capabilities.
  • Maintains a safe and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and standards, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a minimum of one of the following state of Oregon building codes divisions licensures: limited maintenance electrical license or accepted into active LME apprenticeship program through Salem Health, limited maintenance electrician, building maintenance electrician, general supervising electrician, limited supervising electrician, general journeyman electrician, limited energy class A (LEA), journeyman plumber, building service mechanic, or boiler CL3 or higher.
  • Minimum of four years of boiler and steam system maintenance or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and be eligible for authorization according to Salem Health's fleet safety program policy within four months of hire, maintaining it thereafter.
