Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to support the structural integrity management of floating offshore assets in the Gulf of America. This role involves leading inspection planning and execution, analyzing structural data, and ensuring the long-term integrity of topsides, hulls, and mooring systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in offshore integrity management, facility engineering, inspection technologies, and technical leadership, with specific familiarity with Gulf of America operated assets. The candidate would be able to draft, check, implement and maintain the Oceaneering structural integrity management service to ensure the continued integrity of our client's onshore and offshore production facilities. This service is to be in line with all Oceaneering and our client's documentary requirements and onshore/offshore legislation where applicable.

WORK LOCATION AND TRAVEL:

  • Role provides the opportunity to work in hybrid environment, working in office from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.


Duties And Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL:

  • Serve as the technical lead for structural inspection activities, ensuring quality and compliance. Provide technical support in Structural Engineering, supported as necessary by other engineers in the structural department.
  • Provide support to our clients which includes Integrity Management / Inspection Management / Repair activities for structural components in floating assets, fixed jackets; topsides and onshore structures in accordance with the relevant parts of the contract as required.
  • Prepare and maintain structural inspection and integrity management strategies based on risk-based or time-based methodologies as appropriate.
  • Mobilize offshore at least one week per month for in-person oversight of inspections.
  • Develop and issue detailed inspection work packs/work scopes for inspections, ensuring all relevant parties are fully conversant with all aspects of the work scopes.
  • Manage the production and maintenance of structural inspection plans. Provide client support to meet planning gate criteria.
  • Ensure all required structural inspections are carried out and coordinated with all other activities where necessary.
  • Review and endorse all relevant structural inspection reports, including 3rd party NDE reports, and confirm the inspections have been carried out as required by the strategies.
  • Carry out a first-pass assessment of reported defects and report any anomalies. Highlight any areas of concern to the client focal point as appropriate and advise when conditions present an immediate threat to structural integrity.
  • Undertake specific investigations into structural issues and engage 3rd parties as necessary to complete the scope.
  • Lead and oversee rope access inspection teams and ultrasonic testing (UT) campaigns. Ensure inspection readiness, including planning for POB (Personnel on Board) and required equipment. Support and implement Topsides and In-Service Inspection Plans (ISIPs).
  • Liaison with offshore inspection teams (including RAT, UAV & ROV) to continuously improve the jacket and topsides structures inspection scopes.
  • Produce structural inspection annual summary reports.
  • Prepare and review regular KPI, technical and other client-specific reports as required.
  • Support the Project Managers and Principal Structural Engineer in contract delivery via technical assurance and cost management.
  • Ensure all work is compliant with regulatory/client requirements and safety standards/practices. Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (API, DNV, ABS) and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote the use of specialist technology to provide a more efficient service and to resolve unusual/special problems, liaising with the client on implementation as appropriate.
  • Participate in bids and proposals, including the assessment of scopes and estimation of CTR values.
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement in service delivery, maintaining good client relationships and building the business.
  • Provide technical leadership and authority in structural engineering, delegating work to junior engineers within their capabilities, and reviewing output.
  • Support staff development by sharing best practices.
  • Carry out periodic audits of discipline activity against Oceaneering and client inspection standards.

NON-ESSENTIAL:
The list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake tasks that may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

  • Assist with any other duties as and when required.
  • Undertake specific projects as instructed by management.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in offshore structural integrity management in the oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing offshore topsides inspections.
  • Experience overseeing rope access inspections, UT thickness measurements, and damage assessments and familiarity with manning and equipment requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic offshore environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience in implementing topsides and In-Service Inspection Plans (ISIPs) and/or inspection strategies.
  • Willingness to go offshore and/or to remote land sites for periods of up to 21 days.
  • Specific vision abilities for this job are required (all those who carry out fieldwork should have this validated by undergoing an annual eye test).

DESIRED:

  • Experience with hull and/or mooring integrity management and performing hull inspections.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis tools.
  • Offshore safety certifications.
  • Knowledge of Gulf of America regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Ability to work within a team approach to workflow execution and problem-solving.
  • Provide leadership, coordination or guidance to others.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to modify technical information as required for the target audience.
  • Ability to forge good client or support contractor relationships at various levels of seniority and across diverse cultures.

Additional Information

This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position is predominately considered onshore office work. This is almost exclusively indoors during the working day, and occasionally at night, in an open plan office with access by stairs only. Home working may also be required.
  • There will be a requirement to go offshore by helicopter/ship to fixed platforms / floating structures for up to 1 week at a time, per month. These vessels / fixed platforms will typically be in the Gulf of America but may on occasion be overseas. This will require typical offshore PPE and inspection type activities may require confined space entry (CSE) into areas such as voids and process tanks.
  • There may be a requirement to go to an onshore location to perform the same duties as above.
  • Offshore work may also be characterized as living, working and sleeping on oil and gas production facilities with PPE and permit to work restrictions outdoors, over/near water, exposed to all weather conditions or inside exposed to high noise levels, extremely bright or inadequate lighting, cramped workspaces and getting into awkward positions.
