Goldbelt APEX is looking for an Immunology Research Associate.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conducting bench research on Shigella and other enteric pathogens, focusing on the immunogenicity and mechanisms of action of Shigella subunit vaccines or live Shigella vaccine candidates.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of Shigella vaccines in both clinical and pre-clinical studies, including the immunization of small animals, collection of blood, lymph nodes, mucosal washes, and determining both cellular and humoral immune responses elicited after vaccination using techniques such as cellular proliferation assays, antibody-secreting cell (ASC) assays, ELISA, and immunobead multiplexing assays.
  • Supporting daily maintenance and operations of the laboratory, including media preparation, glassware, and hazardous waste management, as well as administrative duties like ordering supplies and conducting periodic lab inventories.
  • Establishing and developing laboratory procedures, analyzing and evaluating research data, and participating in collaborative efforts to achieve laboratory goals while maintaining proficiency and expertise in the research field.
  • Utilizing theories, principles, methods, and techniques from immunology, cell biology, and microbial pathogenesis, including ELISA, ASC assays, cellular proliferation assays, immunobead multiplexing assays, western blotting, cell culture, small animal handling (e.g., mice or guinea pigs), and aseptic techniques.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Skills in bioanalytical assay development and validation.
  • Knowledge of multi-color fluorescence microscopy or live fluorescence imaging techniques.
  • Proficiency in multi-color flow cytometry, including panel design and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with spatial biology methods.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Apple operating systems, as well as the Microsoft Office software suite.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Immunology.
  • At least 2 years of relevant job-related experience.
  • Experience with at least one of the following procedures is required: ELISA, immunobead multiplexing assays, cell proliferation assays, or ASC assays.
  • Experience with molecular biology methods including PCR, RNA sequencing, Western blots, and protein expression.
  • Experience with aseptic mammalian tissue culture and cell-based assays.
  • Experience studying adaptive immunity in the context of vaccine development, cancer immunity, neuroimmunity, or autoimmunity.
  • Must be a US citizen (by birth or Naturalization).
  • Ability to obtain NACI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with research equipment such as gel electrophoresis systems, cell counters, and cell separation devices is preferred but not required.
  • Advanced knowledge in a scientific field acquired through a prolonged course of specialized instruction.

Pay Range: $50,000 - $70,000 annually
