Summary:

Goldbelt APEX is looking for a Biochemistry Research Associate I. The Research Associate will provide support in the areas of Bioproduction and Biocharacterization research.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conducting bench research on Shigella (or other enteric pathogens) to include large-scale production of purified proteins and LPS.
  • Assisting in the daily maintenance and operations of the lab, including media preparation, glassware, and hazardous waste management, and administrative duties such as ordering supplies and periodic lab inventories.
  • Establishing and/or developing laboratory procedures and analyzing and/or evaluating research data; participating in a cooperative effort to accomplish the goals of the laboratory; maintaining proficiency and expertise in the field of research.
  • Utilizing professional knowledge of theories, principles, methods, and techniques of cell biology, microbiology, and biochemistry, such as Liquid Chromatography (HPLC/FPLC); SDS-PAGE (Coomassie, Silver); Western blotting; Protein Quantitation assays (BCA, Bradford Lowry); centrifugation; bacterial cell homogenization and lysis as well as basic bacteriology techniques.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with basic protein and biochemical methods (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blotting).
  • Familiarity and understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP)
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Fluency with Windows operating system, Apple operating system, and Microsoft Office software suite.
  • The individual must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Excellent agility to take on multiple tasks and practical time management skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on lab experience.
  • Proven expertise in immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, Luminex) and molecular cloning techniques.
  • Must be a US citizen (by birth or Naturalization).
  • Ability to obtain NACI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or flow cytometry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the following research equipment is preferred but not required: FPLC, HPLC, Mass Spectrometer, fermenters, lyophilizers.
  • Familiarity with the following typical procedures is preferred but not required: SDS-PAGE, protein assays, bacterial fermentation, and protein purification.
  • Familiarity with coding to support data analysis (Python, R, or shell scripting) is a plus.

Pay Range: $50,000 - $70,000 annually
