MizzouRec Services and Facilities is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides quality leisure experiences to all members of the campus community, primarily Mizzou students. Research shows a positive correlation between physical activity and educational outcomes of university students. Recreational sports and exercise provide students with opportunities for involvement and to develop a sense of belonging on campus.

Job Description

Summary
This position enhances the fitness and wellness opportunities of Mizzou students, faculty, staff and alumni by providing managerial oversight of enhanced exercise program areas and facility spaces, and by developing physical wellness offerings. As part of these efforts, the Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness will directly supervise two professional staff members, as well as 60-to-80 student employees directly and indirectly. This position will also serve as the departmental point of contact for collaborative wellness initiatives with university and community partners. The Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness reports to an Associate Director.

Essential Functions

  • Directly supervise two fulltime professionals in the delivery of both group exercise and personal training programs, along with oversight of fitness spaces throughout the Student Recreation Center.
  • Directly oversee departmental physical wellness programming.
  • Provide leadership and assist with training of student staff to include Fitness Floor staff, Group Exercise Instructors and Personal Trainers
  • Engage in budget development and allocation for all Fitness & Wellness areas.
  • Lead in the evaluation and execution of the purchase cycle for fitness center equipment and accessories.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and selection of any fitness-based software that can be incorporated to enhance the participant experience.
  • When needed, serve as the departmental representative on internal and external campus committees that promote a variety of fitness and wellness initiatives.
  • Represent MizzouRec Fitness & Wellness interests and achievements at local, regional, and national industry engagement events.

Additional Responsibilities
Serve on campus committees and task force as needed to represent the MizzouRec.

Shift

40 hours per week.

Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Evenings and weekends will be required based on program needs.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, or related area and five years of an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is preferred. Instructor and/or trainer certification from an appropriate fitness association (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NETA, AFAA, NESTA). Will also have standard certification in CPR & First Aid. Experience in developing and implementing training programs for individuals with an interest in fitness instruction.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Range: $52,915.20 - $66,000 per year, paid monthly
GGS/PAT Level: GGS 010
