Role Summary

We are looking for a strategic and highly experienced Senior Manager, Import Trade Compliance to lead Rivian's North American import operations and assist with regulatory strategy. This role will oversee compliance operations, post-entry and duty recovery programs and regulatory monitoring, while aligning compliance practices with the company's fast-paced global supply chain. The ideal candidate brings deep automotive trade compliance expertise, a record of leading cross-border operations, and a proactive leadership style suited for high-growth EV or semiconductor environments.

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Design and lead the implementation of scalable import compliance processes aligned with U.S. and Canadian regulations.
  • Optimize Trade Operations: Maximize cost savings through expert oversight of FTAs, FTZs, duty drawback programs, and reconciliation processes.
  • Enable Global Expansion: Partner with Plant Operations, Procurement, Policy and Legal to support expansion initiatives and supply chain continuity.
  • Mitigate Strategic Risk: Anticipate and address regulatory changes, including UFLPA, and tariff adjustments.
  • Shape Compliance Strategy: Serve as a key compliance advisor to educate on operational impacts related to global logistics and sourcing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and enforcement of import compliance policies for U.S. and Canadian inbound operations.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing trade compliance operations team, including recruiting, performance management, and development.
  • Oversee end-to-end trade compliance operations programs, including FTAs, USMCA, drawback, valuation, direct duty pay and reconciliation.
  • Resolve complex trade compliance challenges, making data-driven decisions, mitigating potential risks and driving improvements for all trade programs within logistics, procurement and compliance
  • Own broker management performance metrics, corrective action programs, and internal SOP alignment.
  • Lead internal and external audits and implement continuous improvement based on findings.
  • Assis with interpreting complex trade regulations, anticipating business impacts, and presenting clear risk mitigation plans.
  • Support UFLPA compliance.
  • Collaborate on internal training and awareness on trade regulations, risk ownership, and best practices.
  • Execute cross-functional compliance initiatives with Plant Ops, Legal, Logistics, and global suppliers.
  • Report out to senior leadership and board-level stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • US Customs Broker License or equivalent certification.
  • 10+ years of experience in import/export compliance, with 5+ in the automotive, EV, or high-tech manufacturing industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, import programs, and related international trade laws.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale compliance functions or programs.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to drive compliance transformation in a dynamic and growing company.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong thinking skills with the ability to address issues, make independent decisions, and work with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Mexico border crossing, Canada customs compliance and Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ).
  • Experience with SAP, OneSource GTM, and similar global trade management tools.
  • Familiarity with CBP audits, and origin qualification procedures.
