(OPEN RECRUITMENT) State Highway Administration Assistant District Utility Engineer (Transportation Engineer V) Grade 19 (2706) SP# 25-83-16 YOU MUST APPLY ONLINE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION http://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/mdotmd THERE WILL NOT BE A RECONSIDERATION PERIOD FOR THIS POSITION The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 3 is currently recruiting for an Assistant District Utility Engineer (Transportation Engineer V) in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this SHA position or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification. Nature of Work: This is a supervisory, administrative, and managerial position which functions as the Assistant District Utility Engineer. This position simultaneously manages consultants, contractors, and in-house employees in the execution of transportation projects and reviewing construction documents for multiple complex transportation projects. It requires expert knowledge in both the development of contract documents and construction techniques for over one billion dollars' worth of transportation improvements as shown in the Consolidated Transportation Program and Advertisement. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the preparation of cost estimates; working with the Engineering Systems Team Leader in coordinating utility issues with projects for both Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties; developing and maintaining utility design schedules; coordinating with Federal, State and local agencies; coordinating with District Maintenance, Construction, Traffic, Highway Design, and Highway Hydraulics, to identify impacts and construction transportation improvements; administrative duties; representing SHA at meetings with Federal, State and local elected officials, community groups and the general public; and interpreting and administering the administration's policies and procedures to develop contract documents. Additionally, the incumbent will aid in overseeing illegal sign fine assessments, Miss Utility Ticket Tracking System (MUTTS), and the Lane Closure Tracking System. Setting priorities for projects based on budgetary restraint or availability. This position acts as the District Utility Engineer (DUE), in the absence of the DUE, and reports directly to the Deputy District Engineer (DDE). Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in professional engineering.
Selective Qualification: Three (3) years of experience must include utilities, One (1) year in design and relocation, or Two (2) years in installation and inspection.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).
Notes: 1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education. 2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a State with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Special Requirements:
- This position is considered non-essential. However, the employee is expected to be available to work 24hours/day 7 days/week inclement weather and/or other emergency events. This will include water, gas, and sewer main breaks, wires down, etc.
- The incumbent will be required to wear a cellular telephone while on duty.
- The position will have an assigned State vehicle.
