Synergy is seeking a Computer Hardware Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) - Information Systems Division (ISD). This mission-critical position supports DevSecOps and Agile initiatives and is vital in maintaining and optimizing the USCG's IT systems, infrastructure, and hardware environments.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hardware engineering, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills and experience supporting enterprise asset and configuration management, lifecycle hardware support, software license tracking, and technical documentation. This role supports operations across multiple teams, including IT service management, cybersecurity compliance, software lifecycle management, and platform technology.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research, design, develop, test, and evaluate computer hardware systems supporting operational and platform technologies.
  • Oversee the manufacturing, installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, servers, network hardware, and peripheral equipment in a high-demand, industrial environment.
  • Maintain and update records of all IT hardware and software assets using enterprise tracking and inventory management systems.
  • Perform system diagnostics and root cause analysis to identify and resolve hardware malfunctions or performance issues.
  • Assist in lifecycle hardware management, including procurement planning, waiver processing, deployment, and decommissioning.
  • Support system audits by maintaining physical and electronic software license and warranty records.
  • Implement and maintain compliance with STIG, cybersecurity, and supply chain risk management (SCRM) standards.
  • Ensure hardware components are compliant with the USCG's Standard Workstation Image and configurations.
  • Assist with maintaining Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), audiovisual systems, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Provide documentation, reporting, and technical drawings that support configuration management and security accreditation processes.
  • Support DRMO procedures for retired and defective equipment by federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Operations, Configuration Management, and Information Assurance to support system integrity and readiness.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Expertise in diagnosing and repairing IT hardware and infrastructure, including laptops, servers, network devices, and peripheral hardware.
  • Experience with asset and property management systems, configuration control, and versioning.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure), virtualization, and storage solutions.
  • Ability to interpret and manage software licenses and compliance tracking.
  • Strong working knowledge of ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy) and project collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Knowledge of database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, and Ingres, and experience supporting data integrity and backups.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture compliance and DHS security directives.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Math, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Two (2) years of directly relevant experience may substitute for one (1) year of formal education.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing software/hardware lifecycle, licensing, and procurement.
  • At least one (1) year of IT software lifecycle processes, procurement, discovery, and management.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in an Agile DevSecOps software and engineering environment and Methodologies
  • At least one (1) year of experience with Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
  • Minimum of one (1) with using ITSM Tools such as Remedy Help Desk or ServiceNow.
  • Experience supporting compliance and reporting for federal IT systems preferred.
Clearance:
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain a Position of Public Trust or DoD Secret Clearance.
Certification Requirement
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Additional certifications (e.g., Network+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, or ITIL Foundation) are a plus.

Compensation for roles at Synergy varies depending on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to the requirements of the role; education and certifications; knowledge, training, skills and abilities; level of experience; geographic location; and alignment with market data, law, and other business and organizational needs. As required by local law, the posted pay range represents the lowest to the highest pay that Synergy believes in good faith it might pay for this particular job, depending on the circumstances. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Essential Job Function Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position are critical in evaluating the qualifications and abilities of an applicant or employee. The physical efforts needed to perform the essential duties of this job 90% of the time are repetitive motions, grasping, holding, and finger dexterity of the hands, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, color distinction, and full visual abilities, hearing, talking, sitting, and use of IT equipment, phones, and office machines.
