Located in Kingman, Arizona, Laron LLC, is a large machining, fabrication and mechanical facility that includes a field service division. The facilities at Laron are equipped to work on some of the most difficult challenges that industry has to offer. Laron specializes in mining, power generation, forges and other heavy industry, providing solutions that keep industries moving forward.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, machines and other mechanical equipment.

Essential Functions:



  • Design fixtures, jigs, parts, tooling, mechanisms and equipment as requested by customers, sales team representatives, managers and estimators.
  • Reverse engineer existing items with intent to reproduce and/or improve.
  • Draft drawings and models necessary for selling, demonstrating or the actual fabrication/assembly of manufactured parts and equipment.
  • Research, recommend and/or specify construction materials and special procedures required.
  • Communicate the status/needs of the work with project managers, shop leads, planners, quality personnel, sales team and customers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports.
  • Research, define and evaluate mechanical designs and equipment to meet requirements and standards.
  • Specify system components or direct modification of equipment to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.


Other Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Investigate equipment failures, difficulties and faulty operation to make recommendations for repair, modification and/or improvement.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Understanding and use of CAD (AutoCAD) and Modeling (Solidworks) programs.
  • Performing FEAs using modeling software to prepare reports for P.E. stamps.
  • Ability to read, interpret and generate blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports, with the ability to effectively discuss them with shop personnel.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering theories and principles. Including applying them to the design of equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles for machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
  • Knowledge of material properties and interactions, production processes and quality control maximizing design effectiveness, efficiency and cost.
  • Knowledge of mathematical branches such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics and their application in the engineering discipline.
  • Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the best path forward.
  • Effectively communicates information when speaking with or corresponding with others.
  • Apply general rules of deductive reasoning to specific problems to produce answers that are relevant.
  • Display creativity and alternative thinking to develop new ideas for and answers to work related problems.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common engineering documents, journals and references.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers and shop personnel.


Training/Education and/or Special Qualifications:



  • Two years minimum industry-related experience; Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
  • BS Mechanical Engineer preferred.
  • Proficient at producing drawings and models with AutoCAD and SolidWorks software.
  • Qualified and proficient in the preparation of DXF files for material cutting.
  • Experience with quality control practices preferred, such as ASME or ISO.
  • Qualified with MS Office and Windows, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook.


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:



  • Physical demands of the job include working in an industrial shop environment as well as an office setting.
  • Work is performed at varying noise levels, from office settings to regular work in an industrial shop setting.
  • Occasional work at varying heights and in confined spaces.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
