Position Summary:
Synergy is seeking aSoftware Developer, Applicationto support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC)-Information Systems Division (ISD). The Software Developer, Application in this role will assist in designing, developing, and supporting software applications and modernization efforts that enable USCG's aviation logistics, financial management, and operational platforms. This position requires hands-on technical skills, collaboration in Agile/DevSecOps teams, and the ability to maintain secure and efficient application code across the full development lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and sustain enterprise software applications using modern full-stack technologies.
  • Translate functional requirements into technical specifications and working code through active collaboration with architects, analysts, and cross-functional development teams.
  • Build and maintain secure, scalable applications utilizing platforms such as .NET, Java, JavaScript, OpenROAD, PHP, HTML/CSS, SQL, Oracle, and SAS.
  • Support data visualization and reporting efforts through development of dashboards and analytics using SAS Viya, Cognos, or similar tools.
  • Implement and support APIs and data integration services using modern protocols (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML).
  • Participate in Agile sprints and DevSecOps workflows, using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket for backlog management, documentation, and version control.
  • Conduct unit, integration, and regression testing; resolve defects and optimize application performance.
  • Follow secure coding practices in accordance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), DHS 4300A, and USCG Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements.
  • Maintain configuration baselines and version control across development environments.
  • Analyze and modernize legacy applications, contributing to system documentation, code conversion, and software optimization.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across software and database layers, working closely with helpdesk, engineering, and cybersecurity teams.
  • Draft and maintain technical artifacts including system design documents, user guides, test plans, and deployment procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software development principles.
  • Proficiency in one or more core development languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, or OpenROAD.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and experience writing SQL/PL-SQL queries and procedures.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Kubernetes), and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience working in Agile environments and using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to produce clean, maintainable code and contribute to documentation and quality assurance activities.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Math, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Two (2) years of directly relevant experience is equivalent to one (1) year of formal education.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in enterprise software development, including requirements gathering, architecture, coding, testing, and support.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of program/project-level software design experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an Agile software development environment and methodologies.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
  • Demonstrated experience working in support of federal government enterprise applications preferred.
Clearance:
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain a Position of Public Trust or DoD Secret Clearance.
Certification Requirement:
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Additional certifications (Network+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, ITIL Foundation, or other similar certifications) are a plus.

Compensation for roles at Synergy varies depending on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to the requirements of the role; education and certifications; knowledge, training, skills and abilities; level of experience; geographic location; and alignment with market data, law, and other business and organizational needs. As required by local law, the posted pay range represents the lowest to the highest pay that Synergy believes in good faith it might pay for this particular job, depending on the circumstances. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Essential Job Function Physical Requirements:The physical requirements of this position are critical in evaluating the qualifications and abilities of an applicant or employee. The physical efforts needed to perform the essential duties of this job 90% of the time are repetitive motions, grasping, holding, and finger dexterity of the hands, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, color distinction, and full visual abilities, hearing, talking, sitting, and use of IT equipment, phones, and office machines.
