Staff Research Associate II

Laboratory Medicine

Full Time

Job Summary

The Khan Lab in the UCSF Department of Laboratory Medicine is recruiting one Staff Research Associate (SRA) to assist with ongoing collaborative cellular engineering projects within the Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology. Our lab studies fundamental T cell immunology using animal models and automated in vitro assays and develops novel genetic and epigenetic tools and synthetic proteins to reprogram primary human immune cells for therapeutic applications. Our goal is to develop effective strategies to treat cancer, rare disease, infectious disease, autoimmunity, and transplant-related conditions.

SRAs will be responsible for assisting with various research efforts using cutting-edge CRISPR engineering tools, genetic and epigenetic screens, and a variety of novel cell and gene therapy manufacturing strategies. This will require extensive experience with laboratory techniques and familiarity with a range of scientific concepts related to genetics, immunology, and cellular engineering. The SRA will work directly with graduate students, post-doctoral students, and other laboratory members to support ongoing research projects and develop new experimental protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities of the SRA will include but are not limited to: conducting experiments under the guidance of senior laboratory members, performing data analysis and interpretation, presenting findings to laboratory members and collaborators, participating in the design and execution of new research projects, and assisting with the training and supervision of undergraduate students.

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 1-2 years of research experience in a laboratory setting. Additional qualifications include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a strong commitment to laboratory safety and quality control. Candidates with prior experience in immunology, cell and gene therapy manufacturing, CRISPR engineering, genome-wide screening techniques, and/or bioinformatics are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a cutting-edge research lab focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of immune cell function and leveraging these discoveries to develop novel therapeutic approaches to some of the most pressing medical conditions of our time. The Khan Lab offers a stimulating and supportive work environment, as well as ample opportunities for professional development and career advancement.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).
