Job Summary

The Practice Coordinator applies broad knowledge of ambulatory care clinics clinical, regulatory, and operational practices to implement and monitor the business operations of a clinic in the medical center including verifying billing, documentation, financial reporting, IT systems, facilities and procedures are compliant and meet clinic standards.

Department Description

The Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) performs cutting edge research illuminating cardiovascular and pulmonary biology and disease and trains clinicians and scientists to become future leaders of these fields. The CVRI provides a home for a wide spectrum of investigation ranging from the most basic science to disease-focused and patient-based research. It also links faculty interested in cardiovascular biology and disease across UCSF programs, departments and campuses. The diversity of CVRI's faculty and its collaborative culture fosters a multidisciplinary approach to research problems and provides an important bridge between UCSF's outstanding clinical and basic science departments.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and three or more years of relevant experience and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Thorough knowledge of the clinical and operational implications of medical billing practices including coding, billing systems and documentation requirements. Knowledge of ambulatory care clinic practice management including patient care workflows and processes. Thorough understanding of medical terminology and specialized clinical knowledge of clinic practice area
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and critical thinking. Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate clinic content, rules and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others
  • Productive in work volume, speed, quality and consistency. Ability to see projects through to completion on deadline. Excellent interpersonal judgment and discretion. Ability to work well as part of an administrative team with a customer service orientation towards co-workers, faculty and researchers
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in the Microsoft Suite,Skills in data management. Effectively uses relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and medical record documentation
  • Knowledge of EPIC Electronic Medical Record system

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with COMPAS2 software to generate patient reports
  • Experience with Webtools, including BearBuy Online Purchasing, CLS Distribution & Storage, and B/T Citrix and Hills Phys Insite for insurance authorization and tracking
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments to assess and monitor clinic operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in ambulatory care clinics
