Job Summary

The Hunt Lab, within the UCSF Division of Experimental Medicine at ZSFG, seeks a highly motivated Staff Research Associate (SRA) to provide support with assays to study cellular and systemic immunological markers derived from peripheral blood and lymphoid tissues, in assessment of immune responses to HIV, SIV, CMV, and related exposures. Incumbent will assist with performing tissue culture, aid in the isolation of mononuclear cells from blood and tissue, help to develop and perform in vitro assays including ELISAs, plasma proteomics on the Olink platform, and flow cytometry in support of ongoing projects, perform data analysis, and assist in the maintenance of the lab supplies. Incumbent will perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Under supervision, the SRA will perform standard, repetitive, technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures and/or receive training in more difficult procedures usually requiring a theoretical background in a scientific field. The SRA perform repetitive procedures of limited variety or a wide variety of standard repetitive processes.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Division of Experimental Medicine is a translational, wet lab research unit comprised of 8 immunological research groups consisting of 10 faculty members and 65+ staff, trainees, and post-docs. Our labs use cutting edge technologies to answer clinically important questions about host-pathogen interactions across globally devastating infectious diseases, including HIV, Malaria, SARS-CoV-2, and Tuberculosis.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to adapt and use good judgement when making decisions.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize work and tasks appropriately.
  • Familiarity with use of Computer and relevant programs (Microsoft Word, etc.)
  • Communication and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • 1+ years' experience in basic laboratory research or relevant experience as gained while in school, internship, or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of various procedures and laboratory techniques, such as: flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, RT-PCR and others as gained during school or similar training.
