We are currently searching for an experienced Ports Engineer Practice Lead to support our Southeast Region located in Florida.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
What you'll be doing:
- Serving as a practice builder and growing the SE Region's ports practice
- Conducting ongoing business development activities
- Hiring, managing, and motivating staff
- Independently performing and supervising structural analysis and design for marine and upland components
- Independently performing and supervising berthing and mooring analyses
- Leading development of plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates for a variety of port projects
- Applying a strong understanding of maritime codes and references including UFC, PIANC, ASCE-61
- Independently preparing basis of design, design calculations, technical reports, alternatives analyses, and study reports
- Utilizing your appropriate understanding of interdisciplinary requirements for port projects to improve project processes and perform QA/QC reviews
- Attending client meetings and performing site visits
- Mentoring a team of developing port and maritime engineers
- Leveraging existing industry relationships to promote Volkert ports services and cross-sell across all disciplines
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by the region's business needs
What you need to have:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience in analysis and design of port structures
- Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Florida
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Previous experience in analysis and design of medium to large scale ports/maritime/structures and preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates
- Proven experience in business development
- Ability to hire, manage, and motivate staff
- Existing relationships with port entities in FL
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
- Valid driver's license.
- A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
